Nothing bigger than the GEFA playoffs. This is the first time since 2009 that we didn’t end the season with an undefeated team.
Round One action is probably the hottest it’s ever been.
Our first match up
The Bedford County Buffaloes (9-1) hosts the Williamsport Wildcats (6-4). This game was played earlier in the season where the Buffaloes barely survived in Wilpo. For the Wildcats this game is personal, a lot from the Wilpo side feel like they should have won their last meeting. Standout Buffaloes QB Levi Cook continues to make a statement on why he should be offensive player of the year. This game will be played at the Buffaloes field, 1 Renaissance Cir., Everett at 1pm.
Our second match up
The Dauphin County Comanche (6-4) travel to the Wilkes-Barre Warriors (9-1). The defending Valley Conference Champions have had a bit of a roller coaster season but haven’t lost a game since losing to the Warriors at home. The Warriors on the other hand have pretty much steam rolled everyone they have faced, averaging 54 points a game, led by Rookie QB Gary Kroll and Iron Man Award favorite, Trevon Perez-Nevins. This game will be played at the Bog, 65 Dewey Lane, Wilkes-Barre at 1pm.
Our third match up
The up and coming Hazleton Mustangs (5-5) are in the playoffs. I’ll repeat that, the Hazleton Mustangs are in the playoffs as they head south to take on the banged up Cyclones. The Cyclones struggled in their last couple of games including their first regular season loss since 2015. The Mustangs played the Cyclones very tough at home in their first meeting with just a safety being the difference, 44-42. This time the Mustangs take the trip down to Lancaster, 2950 Charlestown Road at 1pm.
Our last match up
- One of the biggest rivalries in the GEFA for the last 6 or 7 years, the Mifflin County Tomahawks (6-4) travel back to face the team they played just a week ago, the defending champs, Moshannon Valley Vikings (9-1). The last time these teams faced off it was a GEFA instant classic with the Vikings holding off the Tomahawks, 36-32. I’m sure coach Rodgers and company have watched that film many times trying to figure out how they let that game slip away. In the nine times these two titans have faced off, Mova has come away with the dub 6 times including a playoff game in 2018 to send the Vikings to the Keystone Bowl for the first time. This time the Vikings are coming in as the defending champs, does the old gunslinger Lashawn Brown have enough in the tank? Find at 100 Loch Lomond Rd, Philipsburg at 7pm.
