The Death Valley Bowl at Lincoln County High School, located in Stanford, Kentucky, would open my football weekend. The matchup would be Garrard County vs. Green County. This would be my first time seeing Green County play, and while I had seen Garrard County before, it had been many moons ago.

Green County would use an eight-play, 80-yard drive to get the scoring started. The scoring play came on a 20-yard run from Kelson McKinney, who broke three tackles on his way to pay dirt. Jake Bishop increased the lead to 7-0 with his point-after-kick.

The Green County defense used an NFL-like hit by Koltyn Milby on Lucas Whitt for a short loss to force a punt. Green County would get a 12-yard run from Gage Bell and then a 13-yard catch by Eli Bishop. The drive would end without any points for the Golden Lions. defense regrouped.

Sophomore quarterback would find Hayden Elleman for a 38-yard gain near the end of the opening quarter. The drive would end at the 9:46 mark of the second quarter on a 27-yard field goal from Zak Dailey to make this a 7-3 game.

It looked like the Golden Lions had forced a three-and-out, but Green County elected to go for it on fourth and six, and the result would be a 56-yard touchdown run by Bale to give the Dragons a 14-3 lead with 6:49 remaining in the half.

Garrard County used a 43-yard catch from Elleman to set up a 1-yard touchdown run by Parsons, making this a 14-10 game with 5:05 left in the half.

The offensive explosion continued with a 71-yard run from Julian Seymore, who made a sweet little move before outrunning the defense. The point after kick was missed, leaving this a 20-10 game with 345 left on the clock.

Cole Kessler had the last big play of the half with an interception.

Houston Hodges found Bishop on fourth and six from the 44-yard line to move the chains with a 24-yard completion. The drive ended on a 1-yard run by McKinney, making this a 26-10 game with 7:07 left in the third.

The Golden Lions wasted little time in responding with a Parsons-to-Jaghyr Wood 22-yard pass to make this a 26-17,

The first big play of the final frame came on a pick by Jon Moore to get the Garrard County offense on the field. The next big play was the biggest of the game, and that came from McKinney when he got his own pick and returned it for the 96-yard score. Hodges converted the two-point run, making this a 34-17 game.

Garrard County would get a 34-yard catch from Jon Moore and then a 13-yard run by Jayden Decker that set up the game’s final score, which came on a 26-yard field goal by Daily to make the final score 34-20.
