My first high school football game was back in 1976 and though I have seen many things in all of the games I have attended until yesterday I had never seen one player score eight touchdowns in a single game. Well, Hudson Clement changed all that and did so in an amazing way. The senior ran for four and had four touchdowns receiving. Four Martinsburg this was their ninth title in the last eleven seasons, as the Bulldogs remain the top team in West Virginia. Making this win even more remarkable was the fact that one of their two quarterbacks (Murphy Clement) in the two-quarterback system was out with an injury. In watching the Bulldogs play earlier this season I can tell you that young sophomore can run his team’s offense. Ezra Bagent was able to step in to run the entire show and did a pretty nice overall job completing 12-of-21 passes for 207 yards and five touchdowns. He also ran the ball for 19-yards on three carries.

Hudson Clement scored his first touchdown on a six-yard run imitating his brother by taking the snap out of the wildcat formation giving the Bulldogs a 7-0 lead, with 5:31 left on the first-quarter clock. The touchdown was set up when Clement picked off a Gavin Lochow pass. Huntington would shake off the quick score of the Bulldogs when Lochow hooked up with Noah Waynick for a 6-yard touchdown pass with 23 seconds remaining in the opening quarter. At this point, the nice size crowd had to believe we were in for a great game.

The Bulldogs began to actually start barking when they completed a seven-play, 68-yard drive that ended with Clement’s second touchdown making this a 14-7 game after Brentt Terwilliger nailed his point after kick, with 10:46 left in the opening half. The Bulldogs defense came up huge when they stopped Lochow on fourth and goal from the the three yard line, with a little under five minutes left in the half. I was standing right behind the endzone on this play and have to say the stripes got the call correct.

Bagent would throw the ball in the direction of Clement, who made a Lynn Swann one-handed catch to pick up 34-yards. He then capped the drive off with a run of three yards to make this a 20-7 game. Inbetween the pass completion and the Clemnt catch was a 57-yard run by Eric King. I think a combination of being stopped short of a score by inches followed by the 99-yard drive by the Bulldogs left the Highlanders in a state of shock that they never could shake off.

Just eleven seconds later this became a 26-7 game, after the Highlanders misplayed a pooch kick that Xerxees Yancey recovered setting up a 32-yard Bagent pass to Clement. The crowd looked as stunned as the Bulldogs players did. Lochow and the offense shock off be stunned with a scoring drive that ended on a to 38-yard pass to Nakyin Harrell. But the Bulldogs seemed unfazed as the quickly got a Jacob Barrick pulled in a touchdown pass followed by a two-point conversion pass that Barrick also caught to ake the as 34-14 game. Avion Blackwood would get the Bulldogs pffense back on the field with an easy pick, that set up a Bagent pass to Clement on a 10-yard pass to make it a 27-point game at halftime.

Huntington woould strike first in the second half when Lochow scored from a yard out to make this a twenty point game, but the Bulldogs defense would close out the game by not allowing another point. Clement would score on a five-yard run to restart the Bulldogs offense, The defense would set up the next touchdown when Barrick picked off a pass. Bagent found Clement from twenty-one-yards out followed by a two-point conversion pass by Stephon Barclay to make this a 55-21 game at the 6:52 mark of the third quarter. The last scoresn this one came on a Bagent to Clement forty-yard touchdown pass and the point after kick from Terwilliger.

Eric King finished his day with 152 yards on 17 carries to lead the potent Bulldog rushing attacks that accumilated 252-yards. Clemnt had 41-yards on the ground and four touchdowns. Bagent would go 12-21 on the day with 207 yards and 5 touchdowns. Jacob Barrick had a touchdown catch on two catches that totaled 21 yards. The Bulldog defense totaled five picks with Roman Pierson,Avion Blackwood, Jacob Barrick, Hudson Clement, and Xerxees Yancey each getting one.

For Huntington Scott Arthur led the defense with fourteen tackles. Nakyin Harrell and Noah Waynick each had three catches and a touchdown. Gavin Lochow did have a nice game rushing the ball with 108 yards and a touchown on 20 carries.
