For those not familiar with the way the games work, there are three-quarters

of varsity ball and one running quarter for the JV squads. I combined the scores to make it easier to write the article.

The nightcap of my Friday Night Double-Header pitted a very big, strong East Carter squad against the Lawrence County Bulldogs. For the most part, the two teams were pretty evenly matched, and both looked to have played this one with loads of intensity.

The two teams made big plays early in this one before the game’s first score. For the home team, the Bulldogs, it was a 20-yard catch by Carlo Chicko on a nicely thrown ball from Luke Fetherholf. For the Raiders, it was a 25-yard run by Ryland Pfau. The 12-play, 75-yard Raiders drive ended with a 13-yard touchdown run from Landon Yoak, making this a 6-0 game with 7:32 left in the opening quarter.

The second quarter flew by as the defenses of both teams were dominating. East Carter had the two biggest highlights, with Izack Messer posting a sack and Pfau getting a pick.

The Raiders would get a 13-yard run from Bryer Holbrook to give the third quarter some energy. Then a little later, Yoak plowed ahead for a pick-up of 19 yards to set up a 2-yard touchdown run by Ryan Carter, making this a 12-0 game with 4:06 left in the third. The Bulldogs lit up the scoreboard when Fetherholf found a wide-open Logan Ratliff for the 45-yard score. Brayden Queen hit the point after the kick, making this a 12-7 game as the teams prepared to enter the final quarter of play.

The final quarter would give the younger players a chance to strut their stuff, and the result would be two touchdowns for Lawrence County and a big 38-yard touchdown from Freshman Caleb Hall for East Carter. Kaden Johnson scored for the Bulldogs on a 70-yard run, where he looked like Barry Sanders, twisting and turning and reversing direction, all while using some speed that put all of the defenders well behind him. The final score came on a 27-yard pass from Eli Fletcher to Carlo Chicko, giving us the final score of 21-12.
