Abraham Lincoln v. New Utrecht
Lincoln Field, Brooklyn, NY

The Rail Splitters opened up their senior night game at the Third Rail in electric fashion. Zachary Plaza returned the opening kickoff 66 yards for the TD. Cutting left to right and down the right side and finding daylight. Daryl Terry Noel’s placekick was good, and Abraham Lincoln was out to a hot start, 7-0. But, that wasn’t all. The ensuing kickoff was mishandled by New Utrecht’s returners, and in a scrum Lincoln came up with the ball. A few plays later, QB Frank Tribble runs it in from 9 yards out. Another kick made it 14-0. And New Utrecht couldn’t answer that explosiveness.

In the second quarter, Tribble would find the endzone with his arm, throwing a 26 yard pass to Devon Bryant. New Utrecht finally got on the board, on a breakaway receiver down the left side of the field for 60 yards to Trey Wong from QB Isaiah Wright. But that’s as close as the Utes would get.

The third quarter was another bang-bang series of plays. Dashun Smith would find paydirt in the southern endzone, a 6 yard run, and then run it in again for two. New Utrecht’s first play would be disaster, as a short pass to the right flat would get cut in front by Devon Bryant and he would race 14 yards for the pick six. Noel would cap his scoring at 3 of 4 on PATs. With the lead firmly established, the fourth quarter blazed through the clock. The only respite being one last gasp effort by New Utrecht. A 4 yard pass from Wright to Tristan Peters to trim the deficit to 35-12. But the final 3:45 would wear off uneventfully.

Devon Bryant would finish with 71 yards on 2 catches. One TD on offense, one TD on defense. QB Tribble would go 6 of 14 for 114 with a TD and INT. On the ground, it was a group assignment with everyone chipping in: Tribble would get 33 yards on 4 carries, Emannuel Nicolas with 32 yards in 3 carries, Dashun Smith with 24 yards and a TD on 8 carries, Denilson Dupuis with 14 yards on 2 carries, and Bryant with two yards on one carry.  Defensively, Plaza would record one sack on 4 tackles, leading the defensive unit.

Lincoln is now 4-0, and host Midwood on Saturday afternoon looking to continue their undefeated season. New Utrecht finishes their season next weekend at Erasmus Hall. They’re still looking for their first victory of the abbreviated season.
