Fort Hamilton v. Erasmus Hall
Fort Hamilton Athletic Field, Brooklyn, NY

On a breezy afternoon on the western edge of Brooklyn sits Fort Hamilton High School. Second largest in the city’s public school system. Hosting one of the oldest schools in the country. Erasmus Hall originally opened as a private school in 1786. The field was constructed in 1884 by the Crescent Athletic Club. A well-to-do club of the wealthy elite who found homes along the hills overlooking the bay.

For the game itself, it was one-sided from the word go. With no working scoreboard, pressbox, available rosters, or field access, the row of multi-million dollar homes overlooking the field stood indifferent to the game taking place. And neither did Erasmus Hall. They slugged their way through the first quarter to a 30-0 lead on four touchdowns to a host of unknown players. Two passes of 40 and 3 yards, a run of 15, and an interception on a 4th down play to cap off the scoring. The lone bright spot for Fort Hamilton was stopping the first two-point try of the game.

In the second quarter, an 80ish yard TD pass down the right side extended the lead to 38-0. And one final salvo in the fourth, a 6 yard TD run capped the scoring at 46-0. Though the semi-official boxscore shows it 44-0, I can confirm the final 5 touchdowns all had two point plays converted, and confirmed by the officials.

Erasmus Hall made quick work of things, finishing the game in just under two hours. They host New Utrecht next weekend at Sid Luckman Field. Meanwhile, Fort Hamilton’s final two games on the docket were dropped, and a game against Midwood is currently scheduled for 6/25 to close out their season.
