In Western New York’s Section VI, the Class D championship’s final slot came down to Clymer/Sherman/Panama and Gowanda/Pine Valley. On a cool November afternoon at Jack Keeney Community Field in Panama, the two teams put on a show of two entirely different halves.

In the first half, Gowanda/Pine Valley capitalized on field position and turnovers to take the lead. Opening with a 32 yard TD catch by Brayden Smith in the first quarter, followed by two touchdowns from Winter Medley-Peters, a 4 yard touchdown catch and a pick six on defense. Camryn Slade added Gowanda/Pine Valley’s final points on a 65 yard TD pass down the right sideline. None of the four touchdowns scored by the Panthers saw a successful conversion attempt.

For CSP, the Wolfpack kept pace early on. With Tate Catanese opening the Pack’s offensive output on a 5 yard TD run followed by Bryce Hinsdale’s conversion kick. Giving CSP an early 7-6 lead going into the second quarter.
In the second quarter, CSP’s Carter Brink added two touchdown catches from 75 yards and 31 yards. Bryce Hinsdale also responsible for both conversion. The first via a pass catch for two, and the second touchdown via a successful conversion kick.

Trailing 24-22 going into the second half, CSP retook the lead on another Carter Brink touchdown. This from 6 yards out on the ground to take a 30-24 lead. In the fourth quarter, CSP blew open a once competitive game with three touchdowns. The first by Tate Catanese from 6 yards out on the ground. And also converting for two on the ground.

After a key interception by Kameron Einink, Travis Owens found the endzone on a one yard plunge. And spreading the offense around, Sawyer Whitney closed out the game with a touchdown run after the Wolfpack defense held on a Gowanda/Pine Valley fourth down attempt. After one final posession, CSP wins, 51-24.

CSP will face Franklinville/Ellicottville at the Buffalo Bills’ Highmark Stadium on Thursday at 3pm. Franklinville/Ellicottville defeated Randolph, 32-6 to also advance to the Section VI Championship in Class D.
