On Thursday night in Akron, New York, the final game of the Chuck Funke Bowl was played for the Class C Championship. The host Akron Tigers took on the Southwestern Trojans.
Nick Fry led the offensive output for the Akron Tigers, scoring twice in regulation. Both on short runs in the second quarter. Conlan Luck ran a two-point conversion to take an 8-7 lead, however the second touchdown’s conversion was unsuccessful. Tying the game at 14-14.
For Southwestern, Brayden Potter opened the scoring with a 69-yard touchdown run. While Bradyn Fuller added a 64-yard touchdown run later in the first half.
Tied at 14-14, the game headed to overtime where Akron won the toss and elected to go on defense first. Southwestern’s possession from the 20 yard line was complicated by an errant snap over the quarterback’s head. And ended with an interception on fourth down.
Akron’s possession ended quickly on a 20 yard pass to Vincent Consiglio as he stepped over the line for the score. Winning, 20-14 and evening their season record at 5-5. Southwestern ends their season also at 5-5.
