Following a rough loss to Rutgers a week prior, Temple University’s football team flashed their full potential as the Owls rolled over NorFolk state with a score of 41-9.
It felt like almost watching a different Temple team today as the usually struggling offense was efficient with moving the ball today. Temple scored 14 unanswered 1st quarter points. The first of the two showed how strong the connection between quarterback and a running back can be with Ej Warner connecting with Joquez Smith with a 15-yard touchdown pass. With the 2nd being a 1-yard rushing touchdown by Quincy Patterson.
The Spartans finally answered with a 2-yard Touchdown pass of their own (Otto Kuhn to Aaron Moore) in the beginning of the 2nd quarter, but that was just about all she wrote as far as their offense today. The only other points they were able to score was a safety in the 4th quarter.
The Owls completely start to take over the game with just about everything starting to work out for them defensively and offensively. They went on to score another 24 unanswered offensive points which includes a 51-yard touchdown run from Player of The Game Joquez Smith. Smith ran for a total of 142 yards on 15 carries for a team that usually struggles to run the ball efficiently: that’s pretty good.
Temple showed today that when they get into a rhythm, they can really do some damage. Are the Owls really ready to take the next step and become a true powerhouse of a team, or was this game just luck? Will their momentum continue, or does some work still have to be done? These questions will be answered next week as The Owls will take on the University of Miami’s football team which is nationally ranked at 22 at Lincoln Financial Field.
