Game 3 of the 2023 Pike County Bowl had East Ridge going against Prestonsburg, a team I had not watched play since 2004, in that game they lost to Pikeville 14-0, in the Pike County Bowl. This game got off to a better start for the Blackcats when Alex Harris pulled off a fake punt to move the chains. That play led to the game’s first score when Dalton Elliot went 45 yards for the score a two-point conversion run by Baron Craft made this a 8-0 game less than two minutes gone in the opening quarter.

The Blackcats started moving the ball again with a 28-yard run up the left sideline by Collin Hatfield, who broke several tackles on his way to the gain. Bryce Holbrook connected with Elliot for 29 yards. Then it was a 16-yard run from Jacob Rose, who also broke tackles on his way to the gain. The drive yielded zero points as the Warriors defense was able to stop the bleeding.  East Ridge had back-to-back-to-back nice moments in the quarter With an 11-catch by Steven Layne a 22-yard Layne run and then Layne ran for another twenty.  But it was the Prestonsburg defense that had the last laugh in the quarter when Layne was thrown down for a 3-yard loss by Nick Adams.

The Blackcats went up 14-0 on a 48-yard Elliot run.  From there the Blackcats defense got a pick from Alex Harris on a Landon Robinson pass. The ensuing drive ended with a 2-yard touchdown run from Elliot making this a 20-0 game. East Ridge finally lit up the scoreboard when hard-running Isaiah Adkins went 29 yards to make this a 20-6 game.

Harris ended the scoring in this one with a 1-yard run making the final 26-6. East Ridge would pull off a sweet 31-yard halfback pass to Shane Bishop but once again it would be the Prestonsburg defense getting the last laugh with an interception by Kain Paton.
