You know how Protime can tell he still hasn’t lost a step? When he and Mrs. P go walking on Sundays, Protime is almost able to keep up with her. You know how he can tell he hasn’t lost his dexterity? He was able to duck under a chained off area to talk to a security guard at the Beaver Stadium Classic and when he stumbled, he caught his balance before tumbling down 50 steps or more like a human bowling ball. You know how Protime can tell he’s still in shape? He can bench press 205 pounds and walk up those Beaver Stadium steps without getting too winded.
You know how Protime knows he still has it? When he can predict who’s going to win the top games across the state 80% of the time. Let the playoffs begin! This week the Super Surmiser will try to discern the winners of 25 first round match-ups from every corner of the state.
Owen J. Roberts 8-2 @ Garnet Valley 9-1 – Protime is heading to District 1 Friday for a very rare appearance, something he hopes to rectify in the coming years. This will be the game of choice and he hopes it will be a real cat fight. The Wildcats of OJR are led by QB Cooper Chamberlin with his 1,421 yards passing and 13 TDs. Dante Denardo leads the ‘Cat wideouts with 8 TD catches. RB Joshua Jackson heads up the backfield with 9 TDs. The Jaguars of GV run the triple option and QB Ryan Gallagher is the catalyst. He’s thrown for 7 touchdowns, but he, Greg Reynolds, and Jake Morin have combined for 32 scores on the ground. Matt Gabel is the top tackler for Garnet Valley’s defense. The Jags are 4th in PA in scoring offense with 497 points scored. After consulting his crystal ball, Protime has the Jags winning 28-21.
Central York 9-1 @ Harrisburg 7-3 – On his journey home, Protime will stop off in Harrisburg to witness another cat fight Saturday afternoon. Central York’s Panthers are led by QB Beau Pribula who has 899 yards throwing and 6 TDs. He has also rushed for 8 scores. Imeire Manigault leads the backs with 10 TDs. Kicker Nick Basile could be a factor as he has booted 7 field goals. Seth Griffiths heads up the Panther ‘D’. For the Cougars, QB John McNeil is having a year and threw for 3 TDs just last week. RB Jahmir Plant is playing well and also scored 3 times last week. Nate Bruce is the leader of a big, big offensive line. Protime is picking Harrisburg by a score of 26 to 17.
Meadville 7-3 vs. Oil City 10-0 @ Franklin – In a rematch of a few weeks ago, the Bulldogs of Meadville look to avenge the 34-33 loss. The red and black are a double wing-T running team that can throw. Ayran Cotterman has pounded the turf for 1,374 yards and 16 TDs, while Hayden Parks has contributed 963 yards and 11 scores. QB Landon Beck has 10 TD tosses and Parks has grabbed 8 of them. Winstin Heagy and Tommy Pollard are the top tacklers for the canines. The Oilers are led by Noah Petro’s 1,829 yards and 25 touchdowns. QB Hayden Stahl has 7 TDs via the air and 7 more via the ground. Brayden Crocker has 98 tackles from his middle linebacker spot for Oil City. This game, believe it or not is a toss-up. So, Protime flipped his trusty flipping coin and Oil City will be the victor in overtime by one point again, 42-41.
Berlin Brothersvalley 9-1 @ Meyersdale 9-1 – Meyersdale defeated Berlin 28-14 in the 7th week. The Mountaineers want to turn the tables on the Red Raiders. QB Will Spochart is apparently more dangerous running the agate. He has 899 yards rushing, along with 11 goal line crossings. RB Cole Blubaugh chips in with 760 yards and 9 TDs. Kicker Brady Glessner has made 43 of 44 PATs. Berlin’s defense is anchored by Tuck Hillegass. For Meyersdale, QB Mahlon Reese has 679 yards pitching the pigskin. RB Devin Kretchman has over 1,000 yards plus he’s scored 22 TDs. The Red Raider ‘D’ is very good, with the likes of Drake Gindelsperger sniffing out ball carriers. Protime thinks the ‘Eers have been struggling just slightly in the latter part of the year. Meyersdale wins again, this time 21-17.
Chambersburg 6-4 @ Wilson 9-1 – According to one pundit in District 3, Chambersburg is not who you want to play. The Trojans are a very dangerous team with the likes of RB Keyshawn Jones and QB Brady Stumbaugh. Each accounted for 3 TDs last week and both are having great seasons. Wilson counters with QB Kaleb Brown and his 1,133 yards passing with 19 TD tosses. Avanti Lockhart leads the Bulldogs on the ground with 771 yards and 16 scores. WR Brady Gibble has hauled in 7 TD passes on just 15 receptions. MLB Anthony Koper and Lockhart are the top tacklers on defense for Wilson. Protime is so tempted to pull the trigger on the upset here, but his crystal ball says no. Bulldogs 31 Trojans 24.
Montour 5-5 @ Thomas Jefferson 10-0 – Another game where the favorite may be in for a fight. Montour’s Spartans are peaking, having given South Fayette all they could handle. Montour is led by QB Luke Persinger (820 yards passing). He was injured last week and if he can’t play, Dom Magliocco will direct the wildcat. The leading rusher for the Spartans is Gannon Kadelcik who has 11 touchdowns. Robbie Rippole is perfect on PATs for Montour. Dom Sprys is the premier tackler. The Jaguars’ offense is led by Shane Stump. He’s thrown for 1,590 yards and 22 touchdowns. His prime target is Daniel Deabner who has 659 reception yardage and 11 scores. Mr. Deabner leads an opportunistic defense with 6 picks. Dylan Mallozzi is the top ground gainer with 955 yards and 14 TDs. TJ is 6th in the state in scoring and 3rd in PA in defense, allowing only 33 points. Jags 36 Spartans 13.
Aliquippa 30 Elizabeth-Forward 17 – The Quips look to rebound from their embarrassing loss to Central Valley, but the Warriors are no pushovers.
North Schuylkill 27 Pine Grove 20 – The Spartans defeat the Cardinals in a moving tribute to injured QB Jaden Leiby.
Spring-Ford 21 Haverford 17 – In a very well-played game that either team can win, it’s the Rams over the Fords to halt their 8-game win streak.
Penns Valley 38 Marion Center 28 – Aaron Tobias continues to terrorize opposition. This week the Ram QB is too much for the Stingers of Marion Center.
Lampeter-Strasburg 24 Eastern Lebanon County 14 – The Pioneers pick up the ‘W’ at home against the invading ELCO Raiders.
Karns City 32 Keystone 24 – The 7-3 Gremlins bring down the 9-1 Panthers in a District 9 Class AA contest.
Imhotep 22 Roxborough 11 – The 5-4 Panthers’ tougher schedule aid in their ability to defeat a 9-1 Philadelphia city school in the Roxy Indians.
Tussey Mountain 34 Shade 21 – The Titans are a shade better than the Panthers.
Downingtown East 31 Perkioman Valley 21 – East beat Valley by two scores early in the year. The Cougars are still two scores better than the Vikings.
Westinghouse 25 St. Marys 19 – The Bulldogs of the Pittsburgh City League hold off the Dutch in a surprisingly good game.
Old Forge 37 Lackawanna Trail 34 – The Blue Devils over the Lions in a squeaker.
Maplewood 28 Reynolds 20 – The Tigers beat the Raiders for a second time to remain unbeaten in a District 10 Class A clash.
Wellsboro 28 North Penn-Mansfield 14 – Wellsboro is 10th in the state in scoring with 466 points. The Hornets won last week 21-7 in a highly physical and emotional game. The result is the same this week as the Panthers give it their all against 9-1 Wellsboro.
Northeast 20 Abraham Lincoln 10 – A Philly area match-up pits the 9-1 NE Vikings against the 8-1 Abe Lincoln Rail Splitters. Lincoln’s only loss is to Roxborough. They are 6th in the state in defense giving up 49 points. Northeast is 10th allowing 59.
Jeannette 28 Sto-Rox 20 – The Vikings fall just short of beating the former #1 Class A team in the Jeannette Jayhawks in an interesting first round D-7 game.
Governor Mifflin 17 Northern York 13 – The Mustangs barely outrun the Polar Bears in a real slobberknocker.
Allentown Central Catholic 23 Saucon Valley 14 – ACC is coming on at the right time as the Vikings stop the Panthers for their 4th victory in their last five games.
Clearfield 28 Juniata 14 – Coach Janocko’s Bison downs the Indians and gets a rematch with Bellefonte.
Strath Haven 35 Upper Merion 20 – The Panthers have one of the best bands Protime has seen over the years. Their football team is pretty good too. They defeat the UM Vikings as the Big Bossman Billy Splain is covering for pafootballnews.com and is scheduled to be on the http://www.havenfootball.net/ broadcast. Airtime begins at 6:45
