PROTIME PREDICTIONS by Phil

Last week, Protime agreed to take a break from the rigors of his busy schedule and accompany Mrs. Protime Christmas shopping of all things.  Which meant Protime was the chauffeur.  The first stop was Panera Bread.  “Are we getting gift cards?” Protime asked.  “No, silly, we’re getting something to eat before we shop,” declared Mrs. P.  Wonder Bread is more up Protime’s alley.

After two malls, five specialty stores, a meat market, and two more eating places, Mrs. Protime was ready to head home.  Mrs. P and Protime arrived back at their residence exhausted, twelve hours to the minute from when they had left.  “Did you have fun today?” Mrs P. inquired.  “Yes, dear,” was Protime’s response.  Those are usually Protime’s favorite two words when answering Mrs. Protime.

There were some fantabulous games last Friday and Saturday, and when Protime asked his better half if she’d like to hear about them, she said, “no, dear.”  Working some magic through his trusty coin and crystal ball, Protime went 26-5 last week to forge out a seasonal rate of .810 (252-59).  It doesn’t get any easier.  Here are this week’s predictions by the Consummate Clairvoyant.

Pine-Richland 9-2 vs. Seneca Valley 9-3 – Seneca Valley is one of two teams that is on a revenge tour through the playoffs.  Their 3 losses came at the hands of PCC, NA, and P-R.  They’ve beaten PCC and NA to get to the D-7 finals at Heinz.  The Raidahs are led by QB Gabe Lawson who has thrown for over 1,000 yards and 10 TDs, plus rushed for 8 TDs.  WR Josh McLean has snared 7 touchdown passes.  But their strength is their defense.  It is solid and they don’t get caught out of position very often.  Jake Stebbins is one of the defensive stalwarts for SV.  QB Cole Spencer paces the Rams along with RB Luke Meckler.  Spencer has 1,186 yards passing and 11 TDs.  Meckler has raced for 1,142 yards and 15 scores.  Tyler King is P-R’s top tackler and Miguel Jackson has 10 sacks.  Don’t be surprised by a Raider victory, but Protime is going with the Rams, 20-17.

Garnet Valley 12-0 @ Coatesville 12-0 – This has to be the second biggest playoff game this week and one Protime would love to see.  Garnet Valley is a ground and pound type of team with 4,624 yards rushing in 12 games.  Six Jaguars have at least 400 yards rushing, with Colin Robinson being the leader with 962 markers and 19 TDs (21 total).  Throwing the ball is not their thing but between two QBs they have 8 TD tosses.  Defensively, Cade Brennan leads in tackles and Evan Hrivnak has 9 sacks.  Coatesville has some studs at the skill positions.  QB Ricky Ortega has 1,967 yards passing, 34 TDs, and a 140.2 passer rating.  RB Aaron Young has 1,203 yards and 21 tallies.  WR Dapree Bryant has snatched 46 passes for 947 yards and 15 TDs.  Kicker Than Hylen is a perfect 61 0f 61 in the PAT department.  The defense is led by Nikolas Thompson.  The Jaguars of Garnet Valley must control the ball with their running and play stellar defense to win.  Protime gazed into the crystal ball and it says Red Raiders, 35-31.

Cedar Cliff 10-2 @ Manheim Central 11-0 – Cedar Cliff is the only team to have beaten McDevitt, so the Colts are no slouches.  They are led by QB Chris Dare (2,089 yards-29 TDs) and RB Jaheim Morris (1,803 yards-22 TDs).  WR Bobby Whalen has 57 snares for 934 yards and 12 scores.  His wideout buddy, Jaheim Reynolds has 11 TD grabs.  Donovon Ball is a sticker on defense with 98 tackles, including 10 QB sacks.  The Barons have a couple good ones in QB Evan Simon (1,652 yards-16 TDs) and RB Tyler Flick (1,507 yards-29 TDs).  Simon also has 9 rushing touchdowns.  Landon Moyer leads MC in tackles and Isaac Perron has stepped in front of 5 opponent passes.  Can anyone corral the Colts as they are averaging 45 points a game during their nine-contest winning streak?  Manheim can and will, 34-24.

Erie Cathedral Prep 9-3 vs. Clearfield 12-0 – Here is Protime’s game.  Prep has had the injury bug hit them all year, so who knows who may be playing.  The Ramblers are led statistically be RB Billy Lucas who has traversed for 1,132 yards and found the end zone 15 times.  Their top receiver is Jake Oedekoven.  Prep has used 2 quarterbacks in Regan Schleicher (912 yards-11 TDs) and Colin Johnson (895 yards and 13 TDs).  Schleicher has rambled for almost 600 yards and scored 8 TDs.  Kicker Colin Kelly made 7 FGs so far.  Jaheim Williams has the most tackles for Prep.  The Bison are led by Penn State preferred walk-on, Isaac Rumery, who has pitched the pigskin for 2,397 yards and 25 TDs.  He’s run for 12 more scores.  Jake Lezzer (44 grabs for 1,024 yards-9 TDs) and Taye Lynch (40 snares for 887 yards-12 TDs) are the main wide outs.  Brett Zattoni (,015 yards-13 TDs) and Caleb Freeman (961 yards-21 TDs) and the backs.  Freshman Oliver Billotte and Spencer Graham lead the Bison ‘D’.  Protime’s crystal ball has it 34 for Prep and 31 for Clearfield.

South Fayette 11-1 @ Thomas Jefferson 11-0 – South Fayette has won 11 in a row since a one-point loss to U.S.C. the first week.  The Lions’ leader is signal-caller Jamie Diven.  Mr. Diven has completed passes totaling 2,784 yards.  On top of that, he’s thrown 41 touchdown tosses.  Mike Trimbur is more times than not on the receiving end with 48 catches for 925 yards and 15 scores.  RB Drew Franklin has made it to the end zone 10 times and Rayquin Glover has 10 TDs.  The Jaguars have a triple threat with a quarterback, running back, and receiver each having over 1,000 yards.  QB Shane Stump has 1,668 yards passing with 24 TDs.  RB Max Shaw chips in 1,759 yards rushing with 32 scores.  WR Daniel Deabner has 51 nabs for 1,219 yards and 19 tallies.  Even though this is only the third team TJ has played with a winning record, Protime picks ‘em 21-17.

North Schuylkill 11-1 vs. Conwell-Egan 12-0 – The Spartans of N. Schuylkill are led by QB Jaden Leiby.  But he is more of a runner than a passer.  He’s scrambled for 1,675 yards and scored 16 touchdowns via the ground.  He has thrown for 800 yards though.  RB Mitchell Wagner has 805 yards and 8 TDs.  Tyler Elsdon leads the Sparty defense, but has tallied 10 touchdowns on offense.  Conwell-Egan is led by RB Patrick Garwo’s 1,771 yards and 25 TDs (29 total).  QB Alex Goldsby has 1, 064 yards through the air and 12 TDs.  WR Terome Mitchell has half of the TD catches, but 14 in all.  North Schuylkill did not throw one pass last week against Notre Dame.  They’ll probably need to this week.  But it won’t do any good.  The Eagles soar 34-24.

Derry 11-1 vs. Aliquippa 11-1 – The Derrymen are led by a couple of pretty darn good half backs in Justin Flack (1,131 yards and 31 TDs, with 24 of those on the ground) and Onreey Stewart’s 908 yards and 8 TDs.  QB Paul Koontz has tossed the football for 10 scores.  The Quips are doing it through the air more than ever.  The top gun is Eli Kosanovich with his 2,471 yards and 31 TD flings.  William Gipson is the recipient of many of those flings.  He has 46 snags for 1,329 yards and 15 scores.  RB Avante McKenzie has galloped for 1,396 yards and 29 TDs.  Aliquippa has scored 586 points and only given up 78.  Let’s see, Central Valley in successive weeks beat Aliquippa 14-8 and then got beat by Derry 46-0.  Now go scratch your heads as Protime is predicting the Quips to top the Trojans 36 -26.

Richland 12-0 vs. Ligonier Valley 12-0 – Protime’s top game in the state pits two prolific offenses testing each other’s pretty darn good defenses.  These two Rams will be butting heads all night long.  Richland’s Rams have Joe Hauser calling the shots at QB.  He’s gone over 2,700 yards passing for 33 TDs.  WR Caleb Burke has grabbed 65 passes for 1,129 yards and 15 TDs.  RB Zack Vogelsberger has scored 17 times, while the speedy Teon Reed leads in yardage and has 8 TDs.  The Sabols, Lucas and Jacob headline the Rams’ defense.  For the Rams of Ligonier Valley, John Caldwell has 2,489 yards passing with 35 TDs.  Aaron Tutino has 59 catches for 1,268 yards and 19 tallies.  Sam Sheeder has 42 grabs for 700 yards.  RB Kyrie Miller has travelled 1,456 yards, scoring 23 touchdowns.  Sheeder leads the ‘D’ in tackles and Zach Beitel has 5 picks.  The crystal ball fogged up on this one, so Protime has to go to a gut decision.  Ligonier Valley to prevail 36-32.

Mount Carmel 10-2 @ Southern Columbia 12-0 – The Red Tornadoes are led by QB Tom Reisinger and his 1,303 yards passing for 16 TDs.  Top wide out is Jack Chapman with 6 TD snags.  RB John Ayres has 1,277 yards and 15 scores, while Shane Weidner has 12 goal line crossings.  On defense, MC is led by Nick Troutman and Chapman.  Michael Hood has 15 sacks.  The indomitable Tigers have an all-star team in QB Stone Hollenbach (1,157 yards-17 TDs), WR Julian Fleming (60-1,235-16), RBs Gaige (1,418 yards-28 TDs) and Gavin Garcia (900 yards-19 TDs).  LBs Cal Haladay and Max Tillett headline a ferocious Tiger defense.  Tigers beat Tornadoes again, this time 38-20.

Farrell 11-0 vs. Shade 11-1 – The Steelers make their way south to play the dangerous Panthers.  QB Kyi Wright leads the Farrell offense that has scored 579 points.  Wright has thrown the agate for 1,284 yards and 23 TDs.  He also has a 143.7 QB rating.  WR Jourdan Townsend has snabbed many of Kyi’s throws, 52 to be exact, for 920 yards and 17 TDs.  RB Christian Lewis has 1,731 yards and 22 scores.  Tamir Green is the tackling leader for the Steelers.  Brady Fyfe is what makes the Panther offense go.  He has accounted for touchdowns, then he has scurried for 1,223 yards with 16 goal line crossings.  WR Dawson Snyder has 70 grabs for 1,047 yards and 12 tallies.  Four other receivers have over 500 yards and at least 6 TDs, including Vince Fyock with 11.  Austin Mauger has 160 tackles and Fyock has 113 tackles for the Panthers.  Farrell will win 44-22.

Rochester 11-1 vs. Our Lady of the Sacred Heart 11-1 – OLSH gave Rochester their only loss in convincing fashion.  It won’t happen again.  If Rochester can control the ball with their punishing ground game they have a real shot.  Noah Whiteleather (1,913 yards with 26 TDs) and Darius Goosby (885 yards with 17 TDs) lead the Rams.  For the Chargers of OLSH, it all centers around their phenomenal quarterback, Tyler Bradley.  Bradley has amassed over 3,000 yards passing and tossed 42 TDs.  His top three receivers are Richard Banks (almost 800 yards and 13 TD catches), Rico Tate (10 TD catches), and Andrew Schnarre.  Lest one thinks they live and die by the pass, think again.  Austin Wigley has wiggled his way to a total of 22 touchdowns, the majority on the ground.  The difference in the game will be the OLSH ‘D’ as they win a squeaker, 20-18.

The Others:

St. College 41 Delaware Valley 24 – In a rematch of last year’s classic, where the Little Lions came from behind to win 21-14, the Lions need no such luck this time in defeating the Warriors.

Harrisburg 26 Central Dauphin 17 – Besides Coatesville no one held the Cougar offense in check this year except the Rams of CD.  Protime believes they can do it again, but the Burg can play defense too and they win a close one.

Bethlehem Freedom 42 Emmaus 38 – This will be an entertaining game.  Freedom won by one during the regular season.  Protime just has a gut feeling the Patriots will be a twinge better this time too.

Hollidaysburg 28 Wallenpaupack 26 – This was a Protime coin-flipper as both teams appear to be on equal footing.  The Golden Tigers have their paws full with pesky Buckhorns, but they manage to prevail.

Penn Wood 34 West Chester Rustin 27 – The WC Golden Knights handed the Penn Wood Patriots their only loss this year, but Penn Wood will use that as motivation to rise to the occasion.

Gateway 33 West Allegheny 13 – The Gators take a bite out of the Indians as they continue to roll toward Hershey.

Penn Hills 31 Peters Township 24 – The Indians of Penn Hills defeat the Indians of Peters Township in a real old-fashioned shoot out.

Cocalico 21 William Penn 10 – The Bearcats may be rated higher, but Protime is betting on the Eagles in a slight upset.

Valley View 35 Dallas 14 – Valley View’s Cougars gave the Mountaineers their only loss . . . . . . . . make that their only two losses.

Pottsgrove 25 Jersey Shore 13 – The Falcons glide past the Bulldogs, continuing their superb year.

Bishop McDevitt 49 Conrad Weiser 28 – Could this be the year the Crusaders get back to Hershey in December?  The Conrad Weiser Scouts think so.

Bald Eagle Area 28 Bedford 13 – The Bald Eagles take down the Bisons and show they are more than just a wrestling school as they advance to the elite eight in AAA.

Grove City 42 Sharon 28 – Sharon is peaking at the right time, but the Grove City Eagles take out the Tigers for the second time this season.

Middletown 38 Bermudian Springs 25 – Bermudian pulled the upset last week in defeating Lancaster Catholic, but the Eagles come up short against the Blue Raiders, who are vying to make their third straight trip to the AAA finals.

Brockway 24 Ridgway 16 – The Rovers are playing excellent football and should bring home the D-9 AA trophy by dehorning the Elkers.

Wilmington 42 Chestnut Ridge 20 – Once again, the Greyhounds win the race as they continue their dash toward Hershey by declawing the Lions.

Lackawanna Trail 20 Tri-Valley 13 – Protime flipped his trust coin and it favors the Lions over the Bulldogs.

Bishop Guilfoyle 24 Juniata Valley 20 – They’re back!  The Marauders have an excellent shot to make it to Hershey again from judging the bracket.  They’ve played a tougher schedule and that should help them win games like these against the Hornets.

Smethport 21 Coudersport 14 – The revenge tour ends for Coudy just as it does for Seneca Valley.  The Hubbers are solid, but the Falcons found a way last week with an outstanding second half performance.  Don’t count them out.
