Protime Predictions (Protime Jr.)

Tagged under: News, Protime Predictions

| November 3, 2022

Occasionally Protime likes to hearken back to yesteryear.  This week he does with joy and happiness, but also some sadness as Protime, Jr. will be getting married on Saturday.  That means the lovely Mrs. P and Protime will become empty nesters.  Protime can remember taking Junior to his first high school football game.  The little guy was so excited.  There was a loud roar of the crowd when the home team ran the opening kickoff back for a touchdown.  The noise startled Protime, Jr. and he started to cry.  Little people are resilient though and he bounced back to cheer on the good guys.

That little tyke grew up to be quite a baseball player.  He was an academic All-American his senior year.  Football was not in the cards, but he is a big fan.  In fact, he and his friends occasionally attend the same game Protime does and they love heckling the proud predictor from the stands.  The Protime household will soon be a lot quieter.  Protime will now have to take out the garbage, cut the grass, and shovel snow.  Board games will be a thing of the past, so Protime will have to teach Mrs. P the ins and outs of chess.

Speaking of the strategies of chess, it’s playoff time and those who qualified will be matching their chalkboard x and o strategies on the football field in the hopes of bringing home some hardware.  Protime went 18-8 last week and is 187-69 (.730) for the year.  Some great games this week and the Pigskin Profit has conjured up some outstanding outcomes.

Central (Martinsburg) 8-2 @ Tyrone 8-2 – Two old rivals will battle it out in the D-6 double A bracket.  These two don’t play each other anymore since Central switched leagues, but here they are banging heads in the playoffs.  Central is led by Jeff Hoenstine, who set the state record for touchdown passes last year.  He’s not having a bad year this year either.  He’s thrown for 2,848 yards and 40 TDs.  Hoenstine has 7 TDs running the ball too.  He is the team’s leading rusher.  WR Eli Lingenfelter has 69 grabs for 1,199 yards and 21 touchdowns.  Shalen Yingling has 29 catches for 394 yards and 7 TDs.  Hunter Smith leads the Scarlet Dragon defense in tackles.  The Golden Eagles have a good QB themselves in Ashton Walk.  He has passed for 1,453 yards and 15 touchdowns.  WR Ross Gampe has snagged 31 passes for 482 yards and 7 scores.  Braden Ewing heads up Tyrone’s ‘D’ and Dravyn Crowell has 4 INTs.  Protime is going with Central 28-21 in spite of protests from Ken Miles.

Hazleton 8-2 @ Bethlehem Freedom 8-2 – Here’s a D-2 and D-11 first round game featuring the Cougars of Hazleton against the Patriots of Bethlehem Freedom.  QB Tyler Wolfe has been on fire this year for the Cougars as he has 2,000 yards passing with 24 TD tosses.  Matt Buchman leads the ground game with 893 yards and 9 touchdowns.  WR Matt Cusatis has 36 snares for 652 yards and a handful of scores.  WR Connor Shamany has 38 grabs for 721 yards and a half dozen goal line crossings.  Cusatis has 5 picks for Hazleton’s defense and Qayvon Minor has tackled 105 people.  The Patriots are led by QB Ethan Neidig.  He has passed for 1,065 yards and 7 TDs, plus he’s rushed for 570 yards and 9 scores.  RB Jalen Fletcher has 1,230 yards carrying the rock.  He’s ended up in the end zone 20 times.  Freedom’s defense is headed up by Alex Sangster and Owen Johnson.  It’s going to be Freedom 31 Hazleton 21.

Leechburg 7-3 @ Mapletown 10-0 – Here’s an interesting game that pits the Leechburg Blue Devils against the Mapletown Maples.  The Blue Devils like to run and Braylan Lovelace is the man.  He’s carried the ball for 1,194 yards and has scored 19 times.  QB Jaden Floyd has thrown for 966 yards and 9 TDs.  He has run for another 7 scores.  WRs Tyler Foley and Logan Kline have combined for 800 yards on 51 catches and 10 touchdowns. Mapletown runs the ball.  That’s what they do.  Landan Stevenson has scored 39 touchdowns in 10 games.  He has 2,031 yards zipping around the field.  His running mate, A.J. Vanata, has 678 yards rushing and has 8 TDs to his credit.  Tri-County South conference teams don’t usually do well in the WPIAL (District 7) playoffs, but Mapletown will rectify that with a 28-26 win.

Garden Spot 7-3 @ Dover 8-2 – The Spartans of Garden Spot are led by QB Kye Harting who has passed for 1,741 yards and 19 TDs.  Harting has rushed for 1,078 yards and entered the end zone 12 times with the ball.  WR Zac Nagle has 48 catches for 800 yards.  He’s got 8 receiving TDs.  The Spartan ‘D’ is led by Cullen Witmer.  The Dover Eagles have quite a quarterback too.  Aric Campbell has 2,014 yards slinging the ball with 18 TDs.  He has scrambled into the end zone for 7 more scores.  RB Gavin Mullens has 1,055 yards and 11 TDs.  WR Tom Smyser has 49 grabs for 953 yards and 8 TDs.  The Eagle ‘D’ has 16 INTs and the top tackler is Zach Townsend.  Protime’s crystal ball has Garden Spot winning 41-38.

Slippery Rock 5-4 @ Oil City 7-2 – This game is going to be better than the records would indicate.  The Rockets have a very good quarterback in William Mokel.  He has thrown for 1,739 yards and 17 TDs.  WR John Sabo has caught 41 passes for 585 yards and 8 touchdowns.  RB Allen Maddox has 710 yards rushing with 5 TDs.  Oil City’s Oilers shuns the pass like the plague.  They’ve only attempted 29 passes all year.  But why pass when you have someone like Ethan Knox.  Young Mr. Knox has raced up and down football fields for 3,352 yards on 346 carries.  Talk about a workhorse.  Oh, and he’s scored 37 touchdowns.  The Oiler defense has Kevin Pearsell leading them in tackles including 17 tackles for loss.  Knox can play defense too as he has 7 interceptions.  Protime is going with Oil City in a close one, 27-23.

Central Bucks South 7-3 @ Souderton 8-2 – C.B. South is led on offense by QB Brett Szarko.  He’s tossed the agate for 1,430 yards and 14 TDs.  WR Tommy Donnelly has snabbed 43 passes for 660 yards and 7 TDs.  RB Jack Carver leads the running game with 6 scores.  Sean Moskowitz is the man with the most tackles on defense for the Titans.  The Indians are led by QB Jared Zimmerman who has 1,077 yards passing with 8 touchdown tosses.  He also contributed 407 yards and 5 TDs running the ball.  WR Danny Dyches has hauled in 30 passes for 427 yards and a trio of TDs.  Jayden Bergey heads up the Indian defense.  Protime’s final has it C.B. South 21 Souderton 14.
