A team never wants to be overshadowed by their stadium. And as Salamanca opened their newly renovated and incredibly improved Veterans Memorial Park, it was hard to top. But, despite a driving snowstorm that became unrelenting in the second quarter, the Salamanca Warriors offense became the story of the day.

A bit slow at first, the Warriors trod through the snow, en route to their first of many scores on the day. Lucas McKenna, quarterback, took a two yard bruising run up the middle for the first points on the new turf field. He added the two-point try with his feet. Salamanca would hold that slim, 8-0 lead, until the middle of the second when the flood gates opened.

Jesse Stahlman would unleash four touchdowns, three in the second quarter from 1, 9, and 25 yards out, for the homestanding warriors to comfortably return to the locker room, up 30-0. Maple Grove’s struggles were numerous, but the biggest was big #47 gashing them play after play.

With the storm relenting in the second half, Salamanca’s offense kept humming along. The fourth and final Jesse Stahlman TD, from 4 yards out, gave way to Ezra Stahlman getting his moment. A penultimate 5 yard TD run, followed by Austin Maybee’s second two point conversion reception from QB Lucas McKenna. Maple Grove, down 46-0 at this point, saw some positive downfield movement, and Jackson Gowan scampered in from 8 yards out to give the beleaguered Red Dragons their first score of the 2020/21 season. His conversion pass was intercepted by Cole Hedlund in a leaping, acrobatic defensive play.

Trevor Ellis would account for one two point run himself and the lone kick attempt was no good after the fourth touchdown to close out the first half.
