Bryon Thomas led the way for Groveton to take a 28-13 lead over Shelbyville. Thomas would score three times over the course of the game, while Jackson Cathey is on the receiving end of a 72 yard touchdown pass.

After a struggling start for Shelbyville, the Dragons get things going in the second quarter when Ja’Davian Mathis goes 17 yards for a score. Hunter Harvey finds the endzone late in the first half to cut the Groveton lead to 21-13. Cameron Mason scores late in the third quarter to chip away at the 28-13 lead, a 1 yard TD dive over the pile. Though the kick was blocked. At 28-19, Jon Jon Mathis scores on a 32 yard TD pass just over the fingertips of Cathey. The two point try was converted, cutting Groveton’s lead down to a single point, 28-27 with 45 seconds left in the third quarter.

In the fourth, Eli Ferguson goes 5 yards for the touchdown as the rain picks up. And then catches the two point pass on his knees in the front edge of the endzone. Shelbyville’s 35-28 lead would stand up through unrelenting pressure by Groveton.

Late in the game, Groveton would misfire on a long pass down the left side, to setup a 4th down attempt in their end of the field. The fourth down run was short, but the chains had to come out to verify. On the ensuing possession, Shelbyville carefully times their plays to run out the clock without giving Groveton another crack at it.
