The Lumberton Raiders use a dominant first quarter to fuel a comfortable win against Athens at Stephen F. Austin’s Homer Bryce Stadium on Friday night. Lucas Powell scores first on a 3 yard run. While Jaddon Ward gets his first of two scores on a 3 yard run less than 6 minutes into the game. And Trey Kersh completes the first quarter trifecta with a 32 yard TD catch 8:59 into the contest.
Lumberton’s 21-0 lead gets extended by Ward’s second score, a 1 yard run up the middle, just 2:10 into the start of the second quarter. Though the PAT kick is no good. Giving the Raiders a 27-0 lead.
Later in the half, Athens finds the endzone thanks to a backwards screen pass that is thrown by Julius Brewer for 80 yards to Jamauri Manning who had beat the defense for six points. And a converted PAT to trail 27-7 at halftime.
In the third quarter, Lumberton adds to their lead, 30-7 on the leg of Tanner Timpson who kicks a 31-yard field goal. Ty Reyes finds the corner of the endzone on a short TD catch, with 14 secconds left in the third quarter, to extend the Raiders’ lead to 37-7.
The fourth quarter would move slowly, as Tanner Timpson’s second of two field goals is good from 29 yards. Before Jaxton Stiles would close the scoring, taking a 4th and goal keeper up the middle to give the Athens Hornets their second score of the day. Lumberton wins, 40-14.
