Tonight I made the 40.8-mile round trip to Thomas Worthington High School for the first time ever. I first want to say how nice and helpful everyone I came in contact with from the Cardinals. I was able to obtain currently updated rosters and had a nice conversation with the P.A. guy, who after the game I told what a nice job he did. The crowd on the Cardinals side was nearly 90% full, while the Cougars brought in a little over 100 total fans.

The Cardinals got things going early with a thirty-yard plus completion and never looked back. With only fifty seconds off of the clock, Will Cooper found Aiden Llewellyn for a twenty-five-yard touchdown pass on the second play of the drive, Colin Scalise held for Maddox LaPrad who nailed the point after kick to make this a 7-0 game. Cooper a 5-9-176-pound senior quarterback would have a great game by the time all was said and done. He would go 24-29 throwing the ball well for four touchdowns.

At the 10:23 mark of the opening quarter, Beechcroft got a little pass completion from Aurelius Scott to Jayden Douglas who made a move to avoid a tackler and took off for a seventy-four-yard touchdown to make this a 7-6 game. DeShawn Henderson had his point after kicked block by Francis Brewu.

The Cougars defense feeding off of their offense would get a sack from Arman Vickers to keep the momentum on their side. Cooper with the work of his quick offensive line shook off the sack with two completions totaling thirty-nine yards. The first to Simon Smith and the second to Adam Rhodes. From there Jaden Fields went the final seven yards to make this a 14-6 game, with the point after kick being good. Fields did not get many touches but he still showed some speed and power when he did get the chance.

The final big play in the quarter came when Jovontice Shull sacked Cooper for a six-yard loss. Cooper again shook off the sack early in the second quarter by throwing a twenty-six-yard touchdown pass to Joey Zalewski making this a 20-6 game, with 11:52 left in the half. The Cardinals defense took care of the stagnant Cougar defense as easily as the sum melts snow and their offense went right back to work. Ryan Assoku hauled in a twenty-seven-yard pass to help set up a three-yard score from Fileds making this a 27-6 game, as the point after kick was successful.

The Cardinals defense would register two sacks the next time they took the field. First, it was an eight-yard sack by Jacob Samona, then Zalewski did the honors with an eleven-yard sack. The Cougars defense would get into the sack dance when Jovontice Shull got to Cooper for a ten-yard loss. The half ended one play after the Cougar sack with LaPrad connecting on the thirty-one-yard field goal to give us the halftime score of 30-6.

The Cardinals defense made the first big play of the second quarter with Zalewski getting a sack. Then with 9:47 showing on the clock facing a fourth and one the Cardinals got a big sixteen-yard run from Fields. Miller would close out the drive with a thirty-yard touchdown pass to Fields, who powered his way into the endzone. After the point after kick, we had the running clock with the score going to 37-6.

The remaining 7:34 of the third quarter would bring three big plays. First, we got a sack from Zalewski, followed by a forty-nine-yard completion from Beechcroft with Douglas hauling in the pass from Scott. The final play was another sack from the Cardinals with Abu Keita doing the honors.

The final quarter brought with it a Cooper to Zalewski forty-one-yard catch. Then we got a twenty-one-yard run from Fileds that set up a Cooper Rhodes touchdown. LaPrad closed out the scoring with his point after kick to give us our final score of 44-6.
