We all know what happened to PSU yesterday, but where have we seen that game ending before? @AltoonaAthletic @cpmisch87 @PrepRamblers

For a little fun today…

By now we all know what happened in Indiana last night.  Leading by one point, Penn State had the ball on first down with under 2 minutes to play. Indiana had one time out left.  Instead of taking a knee, the Nittany Lions ran a play and miraculously, or not, the Hoosier defense split like the Red Sea under Moses’ staff. Devyn Ford approached the goal line timidly at first, then had a mental lapse, or not, and stepped into the endzone.  The point after was good and Penn State led 28-20.  Watching the replay of the game, it appears that Ford was supposed to go down there and not score. An Indiana defender even celebrated the td in the endzone for PSU.

Rewind 20 years ago.  Cathedral Prep entered the PIAA class 4A Quarterfinal game as a heavy favorite over the Altoona Mountain Lions.  They were ranked in the top three in the nation and had a date set with one of the top teams in PA, Central Bucks West. Altoona had other thoughts and controlled the Rambler offence for much of the game.  Leading 7-6 with just over 2 minutes to play the Mountain Lions Jeron Jackson picked off a Ed Hinkle 4th down pass and returned it to the Prep 5.  After they ran one play, instead of just taking a knee Altoona head coach Phil Riccio ran another only this time, the Rambler defense split like the Red Sea under Moses’ staff.  The kick failed leaving the game 13-6 Altoona.

Altoona scores with under 2:00 left.

On the Ensuing Indiana drive, the Hoosiers marched right down the field and scored, then got the 2 point play to force overtime with Penn State.

On the Ensuing kick, Tim Dance from Cathedral Prep returned the ball 85 to the house.  The point after forced overtime with Altoona.

Indiana went on to win the game in overtime.

Cathedral Prep went on to win the game in overtime.

The coincidences are crazy, thanks to Protime for the reminder of this.
