LEWISTOWN — The Northern York Polar Bears used a dominant second half to pull away from the Mifflin County Huskies for a 37-6 victory Friday night.
Northern York’s Cash Keck and Gavin Macke led the offensive attack, scoring two touchdowns apiece. Keck also provided a major spark to open the second half with a 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.
After a scoreless first quarter, Northern York got on the board with a 34-yard field goal by Beckham Kalnins. Following a three-and-out by Mifflin County, the Polar Bears drove down the field, capped by a 3-yard touchdown run by Macke to take a 10-0 lead into halftime.
The game also marked Mifflin County’s Homecoming celebration. Congratulations goes to Homecoming Queen Brynn Rowe and King Jack Sudyam.
Keck wasted little time making his presence felt after the break, taking the opening kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown to extend Northern York’s lead.
“He’s been special for us all year. This year, we’re getting him the ball, and he’s making plays running all over the place,” Northern York head coach Jeff Costello said. “The kickoff was fantastic, a great way to start the second half, but the plays I love the most from him are the physical plays, with him blocking and lowering the boom, moving the ball forward.”
Later in the third quarter, quarterback Mason Barnett connected with Keck for a 30-yard touchdown, extending the Polar Bears’ lead to 24-0.
Northern York’s defense and special teams continued to create opportunities, blocking a Mifflin County punt to give the Polar Bears possession at the Huskies’ 20-yard line. A few plays later, Macke punched in a 1-yard touchdown run to make it 31-0.

The Polar Bears added another score when Braxton Porter ran in from 1 yard out with just over two minutes remaining, pushing the lead to 37-0.
Mifflin County answered with a big play of its own, as Landon Cunningham connected with Lucas Hartung for an 82-yard touchdown to account for the Huskies’ only score of the night.
“We came up here last year and laid an egg,” Costello said. “For me this week, and our team, it was about taking care of business, and now we put ourselves in a good position in our division.”
With the victory, Northern York improved to 6-1 on the season, reaching six wins for the first time since 2022.
The Polar Bears will look to keep their momentum going next week when they face the 6-1 Hershey Trojans.
