Notre Dame Green Pond entered the season with a new face at QB in Tommy Murphy, replacing the big shoes of former record setting starter Matt Bodnar. In his first game at QB for the Crusaders, Murphy rebounded from an early interception and didn’t miss a beat after that, leading his team to a rout over the Berks Catholic Saints 48-14.
The first quarter was a scoreless affair that included a turnover on downs from Notre Dame after RB Jonathan Striba tripped over Murphy on a handoff on 4th and 1 from the Berks 21. However, Berks Catholic would also stall on their next possession as a John Hull sack would cause a 7 yard loss to the Notre Dame 27 on 3rd down. The ensuing 37 yard field goal was no good, with Notre Dame taking over on their own 27.
Following that miss, Notre Dame went down the field in 2 plays, with a 9 yard run setting up 2nd and 1, where Tommy Murphy hit Jonathan Striba for a 71 yard TD pass at the 11:17 mark of the 2nd quarter after, giving the Crusaders a 7-0 lead.

Berks went 3 and out on their next possession and punted, but got the ball back 2 plays later after an interception set them up at the Notre Dame 27. However, that drive also stalled and resulted in a turnover on downs and a net of -1 yards on the drive.
Notre Dame took over on their own 32 and put together a methodical drive with Tommy Murphy runs that resulted in a Murphy 1 yard score with 2:39 left in the 1st half.

Berks Catholic finally found the end zone on their next possession that started on their 8. It was a run heavy drive that culminated in a 39 yard TD pass from Kellen Bowman to Coy Keller with only 23 seconds left in the 1st half.

Berks Catholic received the 2nd half kickoff and started at their own 35 and gained a net of 7 yards to the 42 before disaster struck for them and Bowman’s pass was intercepted by Drew Boyd for a 58 yard pick 6. Notre Dame extended their lead to 21-7 with 7:49 left in the 3rd.

Berks Catholic would go 3 and out on their next possession and punt back to Notre Dame, who started at their own 34 and after a few long runs, set up RB Aaron Gordon for an 8 yard TD to extend the Notre Dame lead to 28-7 with 4;55 left in the 3rd.
Berks Catholic started the ensuing possession on their own 24 and just like Notre Dame’s last drive, the Saints went run heavy, which resulted in a 6 yard TD run from Ryan Spatz at 1:53 left in the 3rd.
