Notre Dame Honors Late Coach Anthony Casciano with 55-0 Win over Catasauqua in Home Opener

In their first game back at Notre Dame High School Stadium for the first time in over 2 years, the Crusaders dominated in all facets of the game to pick up the 55-0 win over the Catasauqua Rough Riders. To honor their late longtime assistant coach, Anthony Casciano, a member of each team was handed the first annual Coach Casciano Memorial Award, with Catty’s Tuari Wright and Notre Dame’s Aaron Gordon being the recipients.

Catty won the toss and elected to receive. They started at their own 26 and went 3 and out. After a punt, Notre Dame took over at their own 42, and went 3 and out, or so everyone thought. On 4th and 16, a fake punt pass from Nyechay Lawless to Luca Luise gave the Crusaders a 1st and 10 from the Catty 23. With this new life, QB Tommy Murphy hit WR Drew Boyd on the 12 yard TD pass with 7:54 left in the 1st.

 

Catty started the next possession on their own 27 and went 3 and out. Notre Dame took over on their own 32 and Tommy Murphy used both his arm and legs to get them down the field and finish the drive with a 7 yard TD run of his own to put the Crusaders up 14-0 at the 3:23 mark of the 1st.

 

Catty received the ball at their own 20, but went go 3 and out again. The Crusaders took over at their 41 and Murphy hit a 35 yard TD to Clemente Cintron, that was called back on a hold. Murphy hit Cintron again 2 plays later, but he fumbled the ball and Catty took over on their own 29.

Catty went 3 and out, and Notre Dame started at their own 30. The ground game for the Crusaders got going as Aaron Gordon’s 12 yard run pushed the Notre Dame lead to 21-0 with 10:08 left in the 2nd.

 

Catty started their next possession on their own 30, and reach the Crusaders 47, before John Hull intercepted the pass and return it for a 53 yard pick 6, extending the Notre Dame lead to 28-0 with 7:19 left in the 2nd.

 

Catty started their next possession on their own 30 and reached the Notre Dame 42, but turned the ball over on downs, setting up the Crusaders with excellent field position. The 1-2 punch of Gordon and Striba led Notre Dame the field, where Striba punched in a 2 yard TD run to put the Crusaders up 35-0 with 29.9 seconds left in the half.

 

The half ended with the Crusaders leading 35-0. They received the 2nd half kickoff from their own 46 and score again 4 plays later, as Jonathan Striba’s 43 yard TD run put Notre Dame up 42-0 at the 9:40 mark of the 3rd.

 

Catty started the next possession at their own 35 and gained 2 yards before turning it over on downs. One play later, Aaron Gordon made them pay with his 37 yard TD run that put Notre Dame up 48-0 with 5:30 left in the 3rd, following a blocked PAT.

 

Catty started on the Notre dame 35 their next possession but lost 1o yards before a turnover on downs. Notre Dame took over on their own 48 and put the exclamation point on the game 4 plays later with an Aaron Gordon 23 yard TD run that made the score 55-0 with 10:00 left in the game.

 

That was be the final scoring play, as the Crusaders went onto win 55-0. Notre Dame improves to 5-0 and will face Palisades next Friday at 7 back at home. The Catty Rough Riders fell to 1-4 and will return home to face the Northern Lehigh Bulldogs next Friday at 7.
