The Penn Cambria Panthers rode a 39-point, dominant first half to take down the Chestnut Ridge Lions 53-21 at at Dr. Giovacchini Stadium.

It wasn’t just one standout player either, the Penn Cambria offense fired off all cylinders, having six different players score tonight.

“We had our best practice week from Monday down through Thursday and we were locked in,” Penn Cambria coach Jason Grassi stated. “That’s how we play. That’s what we were trying to get at for the last seven weeks. I was just proud of our guys for how they came out and executed.”

Before the Panthers took off for a monster first half, the Lions managed a defensive stand on the goal line. Penn Cambria got the ball back and scored on a pass from Evan Latterner to Trentyn Hassenplug.

After a stop on defense, Penn Cambria gained four first downs on four straight plays before Ian Beck ran it in for a three yard score.

Chestnut Ridge attempted a fake punt, but it failed and then the Panthers took control.

Penn Cambria moved the ball right down the field, allowing Corbin Vinglish to punch it in for a one yard score. Then Penn Cambria forced a fumble on the kickoff and got the ball right back.

Latterner found Noah Jones a few plays later for a 10 yard touchdown.

After that, Chestnut Ridge finally gets the ball back, but fumbles the first play and Vinglish scooped it up and returned it for a touchdown.

The Lions did find the endzone before halftime with a 43 yard score from Garrett Weyandt, but that made the score 39-7.

After the half, Penn Cambria’s offense didn’t slow down as Beck found the end zone for his second on the night.

Weyandt managed to respond with his second touchdown of the night, this time from nine yards out. Penn Cambria responded with a six yard score from Jamie Maybush.

The Lions concluded the scoring on a nine yard rushing touchdown from Dexter Ward, wrapping up the game at 53-21.

“We can’t give them easy scores,” Chestnut Ridge coach Max Shoemaker said. “The biggest thing is we got to learn to be consistent. We have to do a better job defensively and that carries over offensively too.”
