The Perkiomen Valley Vikings made it three wins in four weeks, as James Gambone punched it in twice in a 21-0 first half. A balanced attack and suffocating line play and constant backfield pressure powered Perk Valley to a 45-7 win on homecoming night at Boyertown’s Memorial Field.

Boyertown’s longest drive of the first half came on their opening possession. The Beard drove from their own 36 to the Perk Valley 35. A Jonah Reiter sack of Gavin Royce halted the effort and forced a punt on 4th & 13. Dalton Brown’s tackle in the backfield on their second drive ensured that one also met a similar end.

The Vikings didn’t have early success, either. Their first drive featured a 23-yard hookup between Aiden Messatzzia and Derek Diehl, but the next three plays netted no yards. It wasn’t until James Gambone’s back to back runs of 15 and 12 yards, that Perk Valley got something going on their second possession. Diehl got another pass for a good chunk of yardage, setting up an eventual Gambone 11-yard touchdown run. His jaunt over the right side made it 7-0 Vikings with :14 left in the first.

With Perkiomen Valley driving again in the second quarter, Jackson Rose stepped in front of a wide open James Gambone on a deep pattern near the end zone. He ran the ball back to his own 30, but a face mask on the return backed the Bears up. Still trailing just 7-0 midway through the second quarter, Boyertown tried a quick snap on 4th & 1 at its own 32. The play did not catch the Vikings napping, and they took over on downs deep in Boyertown territory. Four plays later, Gambone took off around the right side for a 19-yard touchdown. At the 3:27 mark, PV had the 14-0 lead.

After Boyertown held the ball for just 68 seconds and punted, Perk Valley had one more shot before halftime to tack on. They did just that when Enoch Adeleye caught a short pass and then cut through defenders on his way to a 48-yard touchdown. At the break, the Vikings were on top 21-0.

Boyertown opened the second half with a squib kick, recovering the ball on the Vikings 36. On 3rd & 9, Royce hit a wide open Aiden Ventresca over the middle for the touchdown, cutting the deficit to 21-7 with 10:12 to go in the third.

But the momentum was short-lived. Four plays later, Wyatt Merschbach got his hands up to catch a pass that nearly tipped him over. He righted himself, turned and raced untouched to the end zone to put the Vikings ahead 28-7 just 45 seconds after Boyertown had scored.

Boyertown got second life on their next drive; a desperation heave on the run by Royce was picked off and returned 70 yards for another Vikings touchdown, but the play was called back on defensive pass interference. Boyertown advanced to the Vikings 27. As the Bears drew closer, a holding call and a fumble backed them into a 4th and long. The pass was hauled in by Azaiyah Brown, but six yards short of a conversion, resulting in a turnover on downs early in the fourth.

Back-to-back Adeleye runs of 15 and 11, along with 17-yard and 25-yard catches by Derek Diehl, marched Perkiomen right back down the field. They eventually settled for a 21-yard field goal and had a commanding 31-7 lead with 6:16 to go in regulation.

Boyertown went three-and-out on its next possession. The punt snap went through the hands of Owen Smith-Nuding. He went back and the ball slipped away from him one more time, ultimately recovered by Luke Tuturice in the end zone for a 38-7 lead with 5:11 to play.

The Vikings finished the game amassing nearly 500 total yards of offense, limiting Boyertown to shy of 200. The Vikings improved to 3-5 and will be on the road at Pope John Paul II next week. Boyertown fell to 1-7 and will host Methacton next Friday night.
