Time flies when you’re having fun. How is it possible that this week we begin the second half of the regular season? Already? It feels as if the season just began last week. Last week I needed a week off to recharge my battery after the previous weekend, which saw me cover two games at Kottmeyer Stadium and then umpire a total of seven baseball games. My body told me it was time for a break, and I just had to listen to my body. Now I’m back, recharged, and ready for the rest of the season. Since we last talked to each other, there have been several records broken and several milestones reached. Let’s take a look at What’s Cookn’ In Philly this week.
North Penn’s Beck Reaches Career Milestone: North Penn’s 35-7 victory over Pennsbury on September 18 gave Head Coach Dick Beck his 250th career victory. Beck was named Knights Head Coach in March of 2002.
Souderton’s Gallagher Reaches Milestone: Souderton’s 63-6 rout of Council Rock North gave Head Coach Ed Gallagher his 150th career victory. Gallagher was named Indians Head Coach in 2003.
Return of the Green Mystique: There’s something special brewing over at Ridley. The Green Raiders are off to a 5-0 start. One of the main reasons that the Green Raiders are unbeaten thus far this season is because they have pitched shutouts in their last four games, and in fact, they have only allowed one touchdown this season, and that was scored by CB East in the fourth quarter of their Week 1 game.
Carroll Opens New Field on Campus: Last Friday was a historic day for the Archbishop Carroll Football program. The Patriots celebrated their homecoming and dedicated their brand new stadium, Mother Cabrini Field. The Patriots rallied after being down 22-0, falling to West Catholic 22-15. The Patriots will look to pick up their first win at their new field this Friday afternoon when they host Episcopal Academy.
New Members to the 600 Win Club: In each of the past two weeks, District 1 saw a team pick up their 600th victory in program history. Chester’s 24-13 victory over Upper Darby on September 19 gave the Clippers their 600th victory. They currently stand at 601 victories, which places them in 10th place in District 1 for all-time victories. Coatesville is the leader with 770. Conestoga’s 21-7 victory last weekend over Penncrest marked the 600th in Pioneers history.
Historic Day for Great Valley’s Kosmalski: In Friday Night’s 39-7 victory over Sun Valley, Great Valley RB Beau Kosmalski tied the school record for touchdowns in a single game with 5. That marked the second time this season that Kosmalski has scored five touchdowns in a game for the Patriots, who are off to a 5-0 start.
