Franklin Knights
2023 Season – 4-6
Head Coach – Matt Turk
Key Players Lost – Alex Wible, Cole Buckley, Nathan Pfennigwerth, Darrius Graham, Landon Perry, Gabe Wright, Trystin Boocks
Key Players Returning – Toby Sanchez, Jason Carey, Landon Lynch
What to Expect – Franklin will look to build off their 2023 campaign. To do so, the Knights must replace seven all-region Region 4 players from last season. Franklin returns Jason Carey to lead the offense; Carey split time at quarterback with Cole Buckley the previous season and passed for 357 yards. Toby Sanchez rushed for 105 yards and a touchdown.
General McLane Lancers
2023 Season – 6-5
Head Coach – Marshall McCormick
Key Players Lost – Magnus Lloyd, Cooper Robson, Gavyn Henry, Ian Salisbury
Key Players Returning – Jacob Zietz, Jared Corwin, Mason Sayers, Owen Eisert, Isaac Zietz
What to Expect – Moving up a class, General McLane will look to win their first District 10 title since 2006. That season, the Lancers went on to win the state title. General McLane brings back Isaac and Jacob Zietz to lead the offense. Jacob, a reigning first-team Region 5 wide receiver, caught 61 passes for 935 yards and 15 touchdowns, while Isaac threw for 1186 yards and 17 scores. Jared Corwin caught 43 balls for 387 yards and three touchdowns, returns after being named first-team Region 5 defensive line. The Lancers must replace 1112 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns Magnus Lloyd gave them.
Meadville Bulldogs
2023 Season – 9-3
Head Coach – Ray Collins
Key Players Lost – Nic Williams, Justice Esser, Rocco Giliberto, Ty Tidball, Brighton Anderson, Tahlir McClure, Ryan Reichel, Jack Brown
Key Players Returning – Bradyn Miller, Jordan Lawrence, Alex Hauf, Mason Hoke, Jacoby Thompson
What to Expect – Meadville will look to win their fourth straight District 10 4A crown. The Bulldogs bring back 3284 rushing yards with Jordan Lawrence, Bradyn Miller, and Jacoby Thompson. Lawrence and Miller ran for 1336 and 1327, respectively, while Thompson chipped in with 621. Miller scored a team-high 21 rushing touchdowns, while Thompson and Lawrence combined for 21 more. To maintain the same success on the ground, Meadville must replace three first-team Region 4 offensive linemen from a season ago: Justice Esser, Rocco Giliberto, and Ty Tidball.
Oil City Oilers
2023 Season – 7-4
Head Coach – Dan York
Key Players Lost – Kevin Pearsall, Tim Walentoski, Ethen Knox, Justen Dunkle, Henry Milford
Key Players Returning – Ben Garland, A.J. Bucholz, Tanner Kightlinger, Gavin Stephens, Cole Findlay
What to Expect – Oil City must replace reigning Region 4 players of the year in tailback Ethen Knox. Knox rushed for 2340 yards and 34 touchdowns as a senior. If history is any indication, the Oilers are more than capable. Oil City returns starting quarterback Cole Findlay, who passed for 639 yards and six scores. They will need to replace four first-team Region 4 players from last season. Including Knox, linemen Henry Milford, Justen Dunkle, and linebacker Kevin Pearsall were lost to graduation. Sean Alexander, who rushed for 233 and three scores, returns to the Oiler backfield.
Warren Dragons
2023 Season – 0-10
Head Coach – Cody Bupp
Key Players Lost – Eric Dippold, Tommy Nyquist, Samuel Harvey, Johnny Corbett, Matt Sowa
Key Players Returning – Ethan Ringer, Adam Yeager, Chase Myers,
What to Expect—Warren will look to rebound from an ugly 2023 season that saw the Dragons go winless and outscored 66-525. However, despite the rough season, several young players, including freshman Ethan Ringer, Adam Yeager, and Chase Myers, got valuable varsity experience. The Dragons will need to replace starting quarterback Eric Dippold, who passed for 824 yards and five touchdowns, earning second-team Region 4 honors.
