The race for the state title has begun for Peters Township and Cathedral Prep as these teams will clash on Friday night.
Cathedral Prep 7-3 (2-1)
The Ramblers have made the playoffs every year since 2005 (19 straight years) and are on a five game win streak.
This Rambler offense remains explosive as they have five games this year with 40+ points and three with 50+ points.
QB Luke Castello while only completing 51% of his passes has thrown for 1,160+ yards, rushed for 200+ yards and 24 TDs. The face of this offense though is the running game led by senior RB Dajoure Hollingsworth. He has 1,560+ yards on the year, averages 156+ yards a game and ran in 18 TDs. Cathedral Prep also has another rusher with 700+ rushing yards in Sahtaun Lewis. Receiving wise, only three players with 100+ yards and nine combined TDs.
Defensively in all three losses the Ramblers gave up 94 total points. In their wins it does vary as the team has had three games with just allowing single digit points, and another win this year they allowed 72 points.
Peters Township 13-0 (5-0)
Peters Township is playing the best football this program has ever seen, as the Indians have won every game they have played and won their first WPIAL title.
The offense is led by sophomore QB Nolan DiLucia who has now thrown for 2,500+ yards and 26 TDs. Six players have 100+ receiving yards, five of which have 300+ yards and three of those players average 14+ yards a catch. The running game for the Indians as well is very spread out as three players 400+ rushing yards and two with 600+ in Vinny Sarcone and Preston Blair. Sarcone also accounts for 21 TDs (128 points).
The Indians defense in nine games have allowed only single digit points, with the most points allowed this year coming in the final regular season game of the year against Bethel Park (28 points allowed). They also through three playoff games have allowed a total of 35 points and have one shutout.
Overall:
Cathedral Prep has the experience advantage here as the Ramblers have five state titles and the Indians are in search of their first. However, both teams are providing exciting offenses which should be in full force on Friday.
