Avit Rushes for 160 Yards Villanova Beats LIU 24-10

This weekend Villanova University hosted its annual Family Weekend, part of the festivities is the football game has families packed into Villanova Stadium despite the constant mist that fell on the Delaware Valley Saturday. David Avitt gave those fans plenty to cheer about as the Freshman RB ran for 160 yards on 24 carries and one touchdown as the Wildcats defeated the Long Island University Sharks in the Non-Conference Tune up for the Wildcats 24-10.

After the game, Avitt had high praise for the big boys up front that paved the way for him saying “If I could I would make every single lineman the player of the game I would because the holes were so big. I think it was their game they played at an excellent level and made it easy for me.”
The Wildcats started the game marching right down the field on the Sharks defense going 84 yards on 13 plays before stalling out resulting in a 24-yard field goal by Ethan Gettman.

The Wildcats extended their lead to 10 points with 3:04 left in the first quarter when Isaiah Ragland punched it in from 12 yards out.
Ragland added a second touchdown on the day with under a minute left from a yard out giving the Wildcats the 17-0 lead heading into the locker room at the half.

The Wildcats’ run game wasn’t the other part of the game that was dominating their defense showed up to play limiting the Sharks to a total of 176 yards of total offense and not allowing them to get over the 100-yard total offense mark till early in the fourth quarter.
After a scoreless third quarter, Avit extended the Wildcat lead with his first career touchdown a 5-yarder making it 24-0 in favor of the Wildcats.
The Sharks finally broke through the Wildcats defense with 12:12 left in the fourth quarter when Pat Bowen took it in from 25 yards out. The Sharks added a 42-yard field goal by Michael Coney to cap the scoring.

The Wildcats open CAA with two consecutive road games starting next Saturday when they travel to Stoney Brook before traveling to Maine on October 19. The Wildcats return back to Villanova Stadium on October 26 when they host New Hampshire.
