Personal Reasons Given for Sudden Resignation.

With just three games left in the regular season and his team leading in the District XI 4A power rankings, Head football coach at Bethlehem Catholic Kyle Haas has “resigned both his teaching and coaching position effective immediately for personal reason” in a statement released by Becahi Principal Luke Wilde.

Chuck Sonon, who was the offensive line coach, was announced as being the interim coach for the remainder of the season. Sonon, has had two previous stints as head coach at Beca as well as long time assistant at Emmaus.

Wilde, also stated in his email “thank you for understanding as we work to minimize any disruptions this change may cause academically or for the football program.”

The Golden Hawks are 4-3 and have a game with Parkland Saturday night at Bethlehem School District Stadium.

Haas took over the head coaching roll in 2017 after serving as an assistant from 2011-15 and filled n for Joe Henrich as interim coach in 2016 while Henrich was on a sabbatical leave. Henrich came back in 2017 and coached for four more years.

Meanwhile, Hass then went to Moravian College, where he spent one season and then as head coach at Northampton from 2018-20 posting a 19-10 record with the Konkrete Kids.

People in the know within the EPC had heard rumors that a change could be made but once the season began those rumors subsided.

Per Keith Groller at the Allentown Morning call, who stated that “Haas spoke with them as recently as Sunday and talked about the season’s stretch run. He said the team encountered adversity, but added: “we figured out a way to overcome it. We have a good group of kids and a good group of coaches. They haven’t rolled over.”

Sonon was 22-12 in his sewcond stint at Becahi frrom 2002-04. In 2002 his team went 11-1, splitting games with eventual state champions Parkland. His first coaching opportunity at Bethlehem Catholic came in 1979-82 posting a 20-22-2 record and then went 18-48-4 at Emmaus from 1988-93.

He also coached at Lehigh University under the tutelage of John Whitehead. Besides at Northampton and Emmaus he also was at Southern lehigh as an assistant whwre he helped the Spartans to a District XI title in 2019.
