Blue Eagles Continue to Soar With Convincing Win Over Zephyrs.

Nazareth Keeps Pace In District XI 6A Playoff Chase with Convincing Win Friday Night.

WHITEHALL- The Nazareth Blue Eagles, coming off an emotional win over Emmaus a week ago 20-14 stepped on the turf at Zephyr Stadium to face a very good Whitehall squad, who also had an eye-opening win over Allentown Central Catholic a week ago. In The end it was the Blue Eagles night in a 35-7 rout for their fourth straight win and to take a step closer to clinching an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference South title.

Nazareth’s offense racked up over 440 yards on the night, behind the quarterback play of Sonny Sasso who was 14 0f 19 passing for 209 yards 3 touchdowns and one interception and who also rushed for a score. Running back Collin Wells picked up his first one hundred yard rushing night by picking up 116 yards on just 13 carries.

Sasso’s second pick of the season came on their first offensive possession, when having all day in the pocket a fifty-fifty ball was intercepted by Braden Bashore at the Zephyrs 25 and returned into Nazareth territory but ensuing drive yield no points as a fourth and one would come up a half yard short of a first down.

Sasso would get the first points of the night put up on the video board with a two yard run with 2:17 left in the opening quarter, Chris Bugbee would tack on the PAT for a 7-0 lead.

Nazareth would stretch it to a two touchdown lead on Sasso’s first of three touchdown passes as he would hook up with Mason Kuehner for an 80 yard bomb with 5:48 left before half. Kuehber would end the night with 122 yards on six catches.

On Whitehall’s next possession, running back Nigel Linton would take off on a 92 yard jaunt down the home sidelines to cut the lead in half at 14-7 which electrified both crowd and the Zephyrs, but the energy would subside as with 1:48 left before intermission, with Sasso on the sidelines, place-kicker Chris Bugbee vame in and tossed a seven yard pass to Kuehner making it 21-7 at the break.

Taking the ball to start the second half Sasso and company once again moved the ball consistently and a 43 yard pass to Nolan Lobb extended the lead to 28-7 at the 8:56 mark of the third quarter.

Lobb was then on the receiving end of another Sasso pass this time from 17 yards out with 3:20 left in third quarter to close out the scoring as Nazareth played their backups the rest of the contest.

Nazareth is now 8-1 with a date at Cottingham Stadium with Easton(3-6) The Red Rovers were doubled-up by Emmaus 42-21 Friday. Whitehall now sits at 5-4 and will face rival and unbeaten Northampton for the Cement Belt Title. The Konkrete Kids won last year’s game 7-0.
