Canon Mac defeats Mount Lebanon for the third spot in the playoffs

Canon Mac and Mount Lebanon both came in with a 5-4 record looking to take the third spot in the playoffs.  It was senior night for Canon Macs band, so they wanted a win in their last regular season home game.    The game started out with the two teams trading punts for the first couple drives of the game.  Mount Lebanon got on the board first with a pass touchdown from Michael Malone to get off to a 7-0 lead.  Later in the third quarter with 3:39 left in the first quarter Mikey Evans throws a touchdown pass to Tj Sabatucci to even up the score at seven. Mount Lebanon fumbled a punt to put Canon Mac inside the 10-yard line, but they would have to settle for a field goal by Zach Barzd to go up 10-7 with 40 seconds left in the first quarter.  The Big Macs had a rushing touchdown with 3:40 left in the first half to go up 17-7.  A few minutes later as time expired Zach Barzd made another field goal to make it 20-7 at halftime.

Canon Mac had the first score of the second half with a rushing touchdown by Zach Welsh to go up 27-7 with 1o minutes left in the third quarter.  Later in the third quarter Zach Welsh had his second rush touchdown of the game to extend the lead to 34-7.

 

 

The score at the end of the third quarter was 34-7.  The first score of the fourth quarter was Mikey Evans to Tj Sabatucci again for his second touchdown of the game

Mount Lebanon scored on a pass touchdown by Michael Malone to Ezra Heidenreich with 9:39 left in the game to make it 41-14.  Mount Lebanon scored three minutes later on a touchdown run from backup quarterback Aj Hyland to make it 41-21. Jimmy Green had a rushing touchdown for Mount Lebanon with 20 seconds left in the game to make it 41-21.  The final score was 41-28 Canon Mac.

 

Canon Mac had its first winning season since the 2008 season finishing 6-4.  They will play at North Allegheny in the first round of the playoffs.  Mount Lebanon finished with a 5-5 record.  They will play Central catholic in the playoffs.
