Sharpsville opened up their season in exciting fashion with a 23-0 shutout of D-10, Region 3 foe, Wilmington. This is the first loss to Sharpsville, in the Brandon Phillian era.
The game remained deadlocked at zero throughout most of the first quarter. Until, Sharpsville’s kicker Liam Campbell broke the deadlock with a 23-Yard Field Goal with eight seconds left in the first quarter. Despite a 57-yard run by Wilmington’s Ben Miller to end the first, Wilmington would fail to score.
In the second quarter, Caullin Summers would reach the endzone on a three yard carry. Wilmington would end up kneeling out the half as Sharpsville lead 10-0.
Caullin’s brother Braedon Summers would also reach the endzone with a four yard run in the third. The scoring would not be over in the third for the Blue Devils. Caullin would follow up his brother by making a defensive play by pulling in an interception and returning it 40 yards to Wilmington’s 35-yard line. Then later in the quarter obtaining another rushing touchdown. Thus, putting Sharpsville up 23-0, and that would hold as the final score.
