Central Bucks West Dominates, Rushes for 318 Yards in a Resounding 40-29 Win Over Undefeated Central Bucks South

DOYLESTOWN, PA — If there was any debate as to who the top dog in the Suburban One League National Conference is, Central Bucks West (9-0,6-0) put that to rest last night in their convincing 40-29 victory over previously unbeaten rival Central Bucks South (8-1,5-1). The Buck’s offense legged out 316 rushing yards behind a dominant front five. Hayden Mulligan (SR), Gio Pellegrino (SO), Cole Patterson (JR), Christian Pudlo (JR), & Finn McGowan (JR) created huge holes for their running backs.  Running backs Conor McFadden(8-111-2 TDs) & Ryan Clemens (20-159) combined for 270 yards on 28 carries.  When asked about the team’s performance Mulligan responded, “We knew if we kept grinding, working hard every day in practice, we could do what we wanted.” He continued, “They (South) never saw anyone like us. We knew what we were coming into, and we knew what we had to do. We just had to execute.”

The Bucks started the evening off with a bang when they marched 69 yards downfield on four plays. To cap off the drive SR QB Cooper Taylor hit JR Devin McGowan in stride for the 47-yard touchdown.

The Buck’s defense would force a three-and-out on South’s first possession. Much like their first series, the Bucks only needed four plays to find pay dirt again. This time around it was McFadden racing 46 yards unscathed into the endzone.

The lead was now 14-0 with 6:12 to go in the first quarter. Not to be outdone, JR QB Owen Pinkerton found a way to get his team on the board with 4:39 to go when he hit SR RB Anthony Leonardi on a wheel route down the sideline for a 58-yard touchdown. The ensuing PAT made it a one-score game.

Seven plays later, after a huge 41-yard first down by workhorse running back SR Ryan Clemens the Bucks found the end zone again.  With only :48 to go in the quarter SR FB Jack Williams took a Cooper Taylor handoff 1-yard in for the score. After the successful Clemens PAT the Bucks took a 21-7 lead.

To start the second quarter after only 3 plays, the Bucks forced a Titan fumble and JR AJ Gerace came up with the fumble recovery.  On the next possession, SR RB Ryan Clemens again raced 39 yards to a first down. Two plays later SR QB Cooper Taylor took the rock in from 4-yards out to extend their lead.  After the missed PAT the score was 27-7. The two teams would exchange drives and be forced to punt. Following a turnover on downs, Owen Pinkerton and company marched down the field and 7 plays later Pinkerton hit SR TE Sean Moskowitz over the middle for a 35-yard passing touchdown.  The PAT was good and with 4:23 left in the half, the Titans trailed 27-14.

We would go into the half with the score the same after exchanging series without any points.

The third quarter started with the Titans receiving the kickoff. After gaining a first down the Titans were forced to punt again after another three-and-out. West took over but was forced to punt after an incomplete pass and two botched runs.   South’s next series went 7 plays for 45 yards which was capped off by another Pinkerton Score. This time it came from 17 yards out, the QB found a hole and went untouched into the end zone. After the PAT the score was 27-21 with 5:21 left in the quarter.  Six plays later and only 1:58 left in the quarter Jack Williams busted his way through the line and scored from 1 yard out. The Clemens PAT connected, and West took a 34-21 lead. The third would end shortly thereafter.

The fourth quarter saw the Titans push and push, but the Bucks never broke. After a false start pushed them back to their own 19-yard line Anthony Leonardi took the rock 47-yard to the Wet 34. Owen Pinkerton then raced 21 yards for another first down. While it looked like the Titans were going to score, they got hit with 3 penalties and two unfortunate incompletions that resulted in a turnover on downs. West’s Conor McFadden put the game out of reach with 9:36 to go when he crossed the goal line on an 11-yard run that saw two Titans almost make the tackle at the one, however, McFadden barreled through for the score.  West would attempt a 2-point conversion to go up 3 scores but failed.  The score now sat at 40-21.  The Titans would try and make the best of their situation. Owen Pinkerton would make the magic happen one more time for his squad. After chunking together 28 yards on the ground in 6 plays QB Pinkerton called his own number again and raced 33-yards for another score. Jack Mauz would score on the 2-point conversion, but the game only had 2:09 to go.

South successfully recovered the ensuing onside kick but the Buck’s defense would not falter and held on for another turnover on downs.  QB Cooper Taylor then lined his team up for what we like to call victory formation and downed the ball to allow for the clock to run out.

With the win, CB West has secured a conference Championship even with One game to play (CB East) because they hold the tiebreaker over South. The Bucks currently rank first in District 1 6A and with the loss, South drops from second to sixth in the seedings though they are still playoff-bound.  Next Week CB West will close out the regular season at home against Central Bucks East (4-5,2-4) for the CB Cup. South closes out their regular season at home against Pennridge (3-6,2-4).
