Head Coach Gerry Yonchiuk addresses his team after a 43-38 win over York High

Central York dominated York High early and then hung out for a 43-38 win Friday night to improve to 9-1 on the year and another YAIAA Division 1 Title. This is Central York’s 4th straight Division 1 Title and have now won 26 straight league games stretching over 4 years. Head Coach Gerry Yonchiuk “It is an awesome win and to win another league title means so much to our kids”.

Central York was missing Nasir Still their starting Quarterback for the game, so they came out and ran the Wildcat with running back Juelz Goff starting as Quarterback. Goff ran the ball 35 times for 215 yards on the evening. Coach Yonchiuk on playing Goff at QB “He is just a special player and we put the ball in his hands and he delivered”.

Goff scored on the 1st play of the game when he ran for a 65-yard touchdown. He also rushed it in from 15, and 1 yard out in the 1st half. York High was able to stay within striking distances when running back Jaheim White and Quarterback Sam Stoner both rushed for touchdowns in the 1st Half. Also, Parker Hines rushed it for a 77-yard touchdown in from the Quarterback position for Central York. Central York went into the Half with a 36-16 lead.

In the 2nd Half York High came out and scored on their 2nd possession of the half when Jaheim White caught a 10 year touchdown to claw the Bearcats back to 36-24. York High got another stop on Central York and then marched down again for a touchdown when Jaheim White rushed it in from 1 yard out to make it a ball game with Central York leading 36-32. Central York had struggled to move the ball in the second half when they got the ball game with 9:34 left in the game.

Central York then preceded to systematically march down the field on York High to try to ice the ball game. Yonchiuk said “Our strength is our offensive line on this team”. He relied on them all night, even with York High having 10 or 11 players in the box to stop the run. The mindset on the last drive for Central York Yonchuik said was “Seniors lets go and lets go win the game”. Also he followed it up by saying “Our guys never panic”. Lead by Goff and the offensive line Central York iced the game away and Goff rushed it in for his 4th touchdown on the game with 1:09 left to take a commanding 43-32 lead. York High would score one more touchdown, but Central York recovered the onside to secure the 43-38 win.

For Central York it was a rivalry game and a chance to win another YAIAA Division 1 title for them. Juelz Goff had this to say about the win “We just had to finish them and send them home”. In a match up of Division 1 running backs between 2023 West Virginia commit and Juelz Goff (several Division 1 Football offers) Goff was the star of the night playing Quarterback when his team needed and Central York needed everything from him to get the win.
