A week filled with gloomy weather finally has some upside as we roll around the corner for another week of High School football! This weeks matchup includes the Sun Valley Vanguards (1-4) hosting the Kennett Blue Demons (1-3) at Dr Wally field. Both teams entered this week on a three gaming losing streak with only one intention, win. Kennett Blue Demons made that possible tonight, going on the road and taking home a win vs Sun Valley 42-0.

Kennett received the ball to start the first half and wasted no time what so ever. On just the second play of the game running back, Aiden Ritch, ran for a 32 yard run. Two plays later Ritch was handed the ball again and found an opening on a 17 yard touchdown run.

The Blue Demons defense got off to a hot start as well forcing a punt on Sun Valley’s first offensive drive.

Quarterback, Garrett McCracken, led Kennett on a long clock winding drive down into the Vanguards territory towards the end of the first quarter. McCracken threw back to back lasers completing a 20 and 15 yard pass before taking it himself and rushing in for a one yard touchdown.

Up 14-0 with under a minute left in the first, Kennett tested Sun Valley’s return team on an onside kick and recovered bringing their offense in for the start of the 2nd.

Both teams defenses battled back and forth for the entire second quarter. It wasn’t until Garrett McCracken found his big receiver, Connor Schumacher, who tight roped the sideline for a solid 15 yards before falling in for a 43 yard touchdown. The Blue Demons pushed their lead to 21-0 over Sun Valley before heading into halftime.

The Vanguards offense started out the 2nd half mixing up their tempo and looking towards the pass game. Kennett’s defense was prepared for this kind of half, however it wasn’t long before Gavin Ritch came downhill and picked off quarterback RJ Scharrer with 10 minutes to go in the third quarter.

After relying on running backs Aiden Ritch and Ian Guyer for most of the drive, Kennett put the ball in the hands of their speedy playmaker, Joalex Carbajal. Carbajal bursted to the outside, juked one defender, and ran in for a 28 yard touchdown.

Down 28-0 the Vanguards were forced to keep passing. Scharrer eventually let one fly and was intercepted again, this time by Blue Demons Linebacker, Hunter Taylor, who took his interception all the way to the house on a 23 yard pick six.

After the pick six the Vanguards took their time after getting the ball back wasting the clock and rolling into the fourth quarter.

Kennett’s offense took the field for one game sealing drive after a quick three and out from Sun Valley in the start of the fourth quarter. McCracken executed the deep shot perfectly, rolling right, setting his feet, and throwing 48 yards downfield to Connor Schumacher who fell on the one yard line.

On the next play running back Ian Guyer rumbled his way in for a one yard touchdown run to push Kennett’s lead to 42-0 with six minutes remaining.

After defensive stops from both sides, Kennett was finally given their opportunity and kneeled down for one final time to secure their victory over Sun Valley 42-0.

Head Coach Lance Frazier of the Kennett Blue demoms stated that, ” We just need to stay composed, lean on what we know and what we’re good at and clean up our mistakes as well as look forward for things to improve on for these next couple. I’m proud of these guys and they way they handled themselves tonight, they worked hard for this win “.
