It was The Valley vs The Ville and for the second time this season, Coatesville came out on top.  The final score was 35-30, but in the beginning it looked as though the Red Raiders were running away with the win, but The Vikings displayed their determination and played their hearts out despite the loss.

Coatesville went up early with a 31-yard TD run from Harrison Susi which put them up 7-0 with 10:47 to go in the first quarter.  This was sparked by a 28-yard run by Ashon Wesley the play before.

Perk Valley’s first series only lasted five plays and the catalyst to that was Ryan Massey coming up big with a sack that forced a third and long which was not converted.  The Red Raider had two big chunk plays on their next drive, with one being a 24-yard reception to Tommy Ortega and a 38-yard run from Bryan Lacey.

Lacey was stopped short of the goal line and what could have been a walk-in touchdown on the next play, was negated due to Coatesville making costly penalties to push them out of scoring range and turning the ball over after missing a 29-yard field goal attempt.

The Vikings scored once in the first half with TD reception to Ryan Klimek, it made the score 7-6 due to Coatesville blocking their PAT.  Klimek accounted for three touchdowns for the Vikings making that a hat trick for the junior.

Perk Valley had another chance to score which would have been a 70-yard TD reception but a resilient effort from Coatesville’s Lebron Bessick to force a fumble, lead to a touch-back and The Raiders take over.

Susi and Ortega were on the same page all night.  They connected for two touchdowns, one in each half.  Ortega had four receptions for 76 yards on top of the scores

Coatesville was up by as much as 26 points towards the end of the third quarter.   Red Raiders head coach Matt Ortega knew that the game wasn’t over until the clock hit zero.

” I just knew that wasn’t enough, and I knew that a couple plays here and there could be turned around and we could have closed the game out there earlier but we didn’t.  I knew when we didn’t get that first down on that 4th and 1, I knew at that point it was going to be a dog fight at the end, and it was,” said Ortega.

“I’m just happy to be moving onto the next round.”

Perk Valley knew this as well as they went on to score 21 unanswered points.  Both of Klimek’s TD receptions in the second half went for more than 40 yards a piece.  This ignited the Vikings sideline and even their student section let Coatesville know that they are still here.

Coatesville didn’t have answers for the pass game in the second half as they were letting up big chunk plays that allowed Perk Valley to get back in the game.

The Viking’s defense had life, as Shane Nelson had a key pass deflection on third down to force a punt.  Another Coatesville series went by and Nelson had a tackle for loss on a bad Coatesville snap, and they had no choice but to punt a few plays later on a 4th and 48.

The Vikings attempted an onside kick with 1:35 left in the game, but Coatesville recovered and took a knee the rest of the way to ensure there were no further mistakes to secure the win.

“We have a gritty group and this class of seniors, I can’t say enough about them.  They have been phenomenal for us and did everything they asked us to do fro the three years that they have been apart of our program,” said Perk Valley head coach Rob Heist.

“That’s not how they are going to go out, if we are going to go out, we are going to go out in a blaze of glory and fight until the last second and that’s what they did tonight,” said Heist.

The Coatesville Red Raiders (11-1) will face The Ridley Raiders (11-1) on Coatesville’s home turf in a raider clash to determine who will move onto the District 1 6A Championship in two weeks.
