
Columbia-Montour Vo-Tech earns tough win over gutsy Holy Cross team.

Rams start 4-1 for first time since 2000.
SOUTH CENTRE TWP- Though impressive on their opening two drives of the contest on a hot Saturday afternoon in Columbia County. The Columbia-Montour Area Vocational Technical School Rams could not take advantage of the situation, however the finally cash in a score the third time getting the ball and found a way tin a hard-fought 24-14 victory over Holy Cross of Dunmore at Wen Cerra Memorial Stadium before a packed house.
The Rams took the opening drive and marched inside the Crusaders five but came up empty, turning the ball over on downs. The second drive also stall out inside the five as the offense appeared out of sync inside the red zone. The third time was he charm however. Starting the drive on the Crusader 34 a half dozen plays later quarterback Myles Kosar hooked up with A ton Koser for a 13 yard touchdown. Braxtyn Brown added the two-point conversion making it 8-0 with 11:50 left in the second quarter.

It did not take Holy Cross long to respond, after an onside kick was recovered by the Crusaders, it took just three plays to tie the score. A 31 yard reception by Henry Chilewski from Josh Josh Lentkowski and then a 25 yard dash by running back Leland Wundarski and Holy Cross as\lso converted the two-point try to tie the game at 5 forty-eight seconds later.

With 3:11 left to play in the first half Brown found the end zone from seven yards out making a it 16-8. Capping off a 10-play 80 yard drive after the defense stopped the Crusaders at the Rams 20 on a fourth down attempt. Brown ended the afternoon with 190 yards rushing on 34 carries and two touchdowns. On the drive facing a fourth-and-17 from the visitors 46, Koser hit Logan Bracey, for a 39 yard gain on a swing pass in the flat, giving CMVT a first down inside the ten before Brown’s touchdown. Koser to Koser completed the two-point play

The Crusaders had a fourth-and-8 as Lentkowski was sacked at the Rams 26 with under a minute left in the half and score remained at 16-8 at intermission.
Neither team could add points to the scoreboard in the third stanza. The Rams did manage to score twice in the last twelve minutes. The first on a 12 yard dash by Brown. That drive was also extended by another long pass completion from Koser to Bracey that covered 58 yards on a third-and-eight the Crusaders 17. Brown would cap off the drive two plays later with 5;57 left in the contest.

“That was toughest hitting team we played today in Holy Cross. Both teams brought all today. This was a gritty win. We are a bit banged up. We did not play our best today but we did our best when it counted.” A victorious coach Mark Varner stated.
Holy Cross did manage to cross the goal line as well in the fourth quarter as Lentkowski got loose of the end and scored from 41 yards out to make it 24-14.The try for two came up short however with still 5:22 left on the clock.
The Crusdaers got one more chance to score as they stopped the Rams near midfield on the ensuing drive but they to went four-and-out with under two minutes left. From there CMVT proceeded to run the clock out.
Columbia-Montour AVTS (4-1) will be on the road next Saturday to face Jenkintown (3-2) out of District 1 Bicentennial League. The Drakes won over Renaissance Academy 57-0. Holy Cross (2-3) will be at Holy Redeemer (0-5) the Royals lost to Lake-Lehman 42-0 Friday.
