County Powers Past Metro for 88th Save an Eye Victory

Harborcreek Township – County Rules Harborcreek with a 29-10 Victory Over Metro for their first Save An Eye victory since 2022.

The County All-Stars, led by General McLane head coach Marshall McCormick, secured the County’s first victory in four years, thanks to the uptempo offense that has become a trademark of the Lancers.

Matt Caro, who passed for over 2,700 yards and 30 touchdowns as a senior at General McLane last season, led two first-quarter touchdown drives, helping the County jump to a 14-3 lead after a quarter.

North East’s Carter Crozier returned the opening kickoff to the Metro 45-yard line. Two plays later, he hauled in a 33-yard completion from Caro, before Fort Leboeuf’s Skyler Sadowski finished off the drive with a 2-yard touchdown run.

Sadowski rushed for 80 yards on seven carries.

In the closing seconds of the opening stanza, on a fourth down, Caro launched a 34-yard touchdown pass into the arms of Northwestern’s Reese Gonzales, capping an 11-play 80-yard drive, giving the County a 14-3 lead after a quarter.

Caro completed 12 of 14 passes for 151 yards and a touchdown, splitting time at quarterback with Corry’s Lucas Baker.

“The Metro team is very tough; they have a lot of good players. We knew we had to come out firing,” said Caro. “In these two weeks, everybody came to practice, wanting to learn, wanting to play the game. We came together and had a great game.”

General McLane teammates Kyle McConnell and Navy recruit Jared Corwin led the way, with Corwin catching a game-high seven passes for 40 yards, while McConnell added three catches for 38 yards.

The County forged ahead 16-3 when Paul Johnson was tackled in the end zone for a safety early in the second quarter.

The Metro was able to close within a touchdown in the second quarter when Erie High’s Nijon Young scored on a 6-yard run following a 65-yard drive.

Fairview’s Daniel Lindenberger booted a 42-yard field goal in the first quarter for the Metro All-Stars.

The Metro’s offense was held in check for most of the contest, with Erie High’s Paul Johnson leading the way offensively, rushing for a game-high 81 yards on 11 carries, while completing 2-of-10 passes for 2 yards, and catching one pass that resulted in a 4-yard loss.

In the third quarter, the County All-Stars effectively put the game away when Crozier scored on an 8-yard run, following an 81-yard drive. He rushed for 13 yards on two carries and caught one pass for 33 yards.

Keaton Frisina put the game on ice in the closing minutes when he ran an interception back 20 yards for a touchdown.
