65th Meeting Between the two Allentown City Schools Goes to the Huskies in Dominating Fashion.

ALLENTOWN- Saturday afternoon at historic J. Birney Crum Stadium then 65th edition of the Louis E Dieruff and William Allen football game took place, with Huskies of Dieruff prevailing 49-12 before a moderate crowd of spectators.

The win gave Dieruff their third win in four games on the season and now just trail in the series 33-32 as both teams close the book on the 2021 campaign and look forward to preparing in the off-season for better outcomes next year.

Quarterback Jovan Rodriguez had himself quite an afternoon as he accounted for six of the teams seven touchdown, three using his legs and the other three through the airwaves as the Huskies never trailed in the contest. Rodriguez was named the offensive player of the game for his efforts, the third time he has won that award.

Dieruff got on the scoreboard in just over two minutes to start the game as Rodriguez connected with Eric Escobales for a 54 yard score to take a 7-0 lead on a quick slant route at the Allen 45 and Escobales out-distanced the defenders to the end zone. Escobales also had a 67 yard interception score to close out the scoring for the day.

The Huskies extended the lead to 14 points with 4:58 still left in the opening quarter when Rodriguez used a quarterback draw and running over a Canary defender at the goal line for an eleven yard score to cap another impressive drive.

Midway through the second quarter Xavier Rodriguez was on the receiving end of a perfectly thrown pass from Jovan covering 38 yards and a 21-0 lead at the 6:46 mark.

William Allen took advantage of a lapse in the Dieruff defense late in the half and closed to a 21-12 deficit going into the locker room.

The Huskies got back to business in the second half shutting out Allen, who put up 71 points last week against East Stroudsburg North, but could not get on track Saturday.

A four yard burst from Rodriguez just over a minute into the third quarter got the lead to 28-12.

Dieruff Coach Dave Lutte could not have been more proud of his team’s effort.
