District 12 & Inter-Ac Week 3 Recap

Week 3 in the 3 Philly City Leagues has come and gone. When the weekend began there were 8 undefeated teams and that number is now down to 5 after Ben Franklin, Imhotep & Haverford all lost their first games this season. Currently only Bonner-Prendie, Roman Catholic, La Salle College & Simon Gratz are the lone unbeaten teams in the city. Let’s recap what happened this weekend in the 3 leagues.

Kipp DuBois 28 Vaux Big Picture 0: Kipp-DuBois QB Nafis Owens threw for 2 TDs and rushed for another score helping the Lions pick up a key division win.

Central 44 Olney Charter 6: The Central Lions scored 2 first quarter touchdowns and never looked back coasting to victory over Olney. Junior WR/DB Jaiden Connors caught 2 touchdown passes and broke up 2 passes on the afternoon.

Dobbins 1 Overbrook 0: Dobbins picks up their first win of the season via forfeit due to Overbrook having too many players unavailable.

Academy at Palumbo 24 Roxborough 6: Academy at Palumbo on the road was able to secure a division win over Roxborough.

George Washington 21 Boys Latin 8: Quietly George Washington has put together a great start to the season now sitting at 3-1 and used a stout defense to fend off Boys Latin for a division win. The Eagles jumped out to an early 13-0 halftime lead and would coast the 4th quarter leading 21-8.

Father Judge 19 West Philadelphia 12: Father Judge escaped with a hard-fought victory thanks largely to RB Derrick Kennedy who ran for 121 yards. Judge also got a receiving touchdown from David Holland & a fumble recovered for a touchdown from Mekhi Bartlett.

Cardinal O’Hara 52 Chichester 8: Jr. QB John Welde was efficient going 10-12 for 1141 yards & 2 TDs. Amahj Gowans led the team in rushing with 57 yards & 2 TDs in the win.

Jenkintown 20 Fels 12: Jenkintown claimed school history in this win as the program claimed its first victory over a PIAA 6A opponent in school history. Fels remains winless in the 2024 campaign.

Manheim Central 20 Martin Luther King 14: The Martin Luther King Cougars battled and forced overtime but fell short when Manheim converted a QB sneak for a touchdown in overtime to claim the victory.

Simon Gratz 44 Executive Education Academy 28: Simon Gratz is 3-0 for the first time since 2012.  RB Tray Parsons ran for 4 touchdowns while DeShawn Terrell led the Bulldogs with 65 receiving yards and a touchdown. Defensively Quamir Jones racked up 2 sacks amongst his 8 quarterback hurries.

Frankford 28 Benjamin Franklin 8: The Pioneers jumped out to an early lead and used a stout defense to stifle Ben Franklin, handing the Electrons their first loss of the 2024 season.

School of the Future 50 Kensington 0: School of the Future improved to 2-2 with a division shutout win over Kensington who is still winless this season.

Roman Catholic 21 Malvern Prep 17: In what may have been the game of the week Roman Jr. QB Samaj Beals threw for 266 yards & 3 Touchdowns in the come from behind victory over Malvern. Rayshawn Scott was the recipient of 2 of those touchdown passes. Malvern got3 rushing yards from Sr. RB Andrew Pellicciotta (Navy) in the loss.

Germantown Academy 28 Northeast 13: Germantown Academy QB Xavier Stearn went 23/34 with 330 yards & 4 TDs. WR Michael McKean caught 3 passes for 2 touchdowns. Mike also registered 5 tackles, 1 pass breakup and 2 interceptions in the victory.

Archbishop Wood 20 Archbishop Carroll 14: Wood picked up their first win of the season and got 3 TDs from Sr. RB Yasin Lowry while on defense they got 2 interceptions from David Diehl.

Chester 40 Bartram 0: Chester’s Daron Harris took the opening kick off 95 yards for a touchdown and Chester never looked back coasting to a road shutout win over Bartram.

Springside Chestnut Hill Academy 40 Abraham Lincoln 6: Chestnut Hill Academy Jr. Safety Joey Flach recorded 3 interceptions in the big non-league win over Lincoln. Also shining for SCHA was RB Finn White who ran for 182 yards & 1 TD) in the win.

Lansdale Catholic 21 Conwell-Egan 14: Lansdale won their division opener on the strength of the defense forcing turnovers. Egan actually got on the board first for a 7-0 first quarter lead before Lansdale stormed back scoring 3 consecutive touchdowns to take a 21-7 lead into halftime. LB Chris Ulmer (Monmouth) was a terror on defense along with James Webb Jr. who took an interception 45 yards to the endzone. With the starting QB out Lansdale rallied around back up David Melcher tossing 2 touchdown passes. For Egan WR Chris Tombs had 6 receptions for 58 yards & 1 touchdown.

Archbishop Ryan 34 West Catholic 18: Archbishop Ryan got a big CL Blue Division win over West Catholic behind solid play from QB Frankie Mawson who led the Raiders to a 22-12 halftime lead on a late 2nd quarter touchdown pass to Danny Celins. Christon Mitchell-Brown ran for 9 yards & 2 TDs while also recording 13 tackles on defense. WR David Spinelli caught 6 passes for 62 yards while recording 7 tackles & 1 pass break up on defense.

La Salle College 34 Haverford School 6: The La Salle Explorers fell behind early to Haverford after Jude McClain kicked a 29-yard FG to give the Fords an early 3-0 lead. La Salle would jump on the board in the 2nd quarter when Gavin Sidwar found John-Paul Oates for a 26 yard touchdown to give the Explorers a 7-3 lead. From there it would be all La Salle as they got an interception from Christian Peterman to get the ball back to the offense where Gavin found Joey O’Brien for a short touchdown pass to extend the lead to 14-3. Marcus Jones would get a huge 4th down stop to prevent a late 2nd quarter score for Haverford and the score remained 14-3 at the half. La Salle defense was stout in the first half only allowing 66 total yards & 3 first downs. The Explorers would pour it on in the second half with Desmond Ortiz rushing for 2 touchdowns and Michael Venango adding the final touchdown of the afternoon.

Belmont Charter 20 Mastery Charter North 14: Belmont earned their first win over the season over Mastery.

East St. Louis 35 Imhotep Charter 14: Scores can be deceiving as Tep was in this game until the 4th quarter. Tep actually trailed only 21-14 entering the 4th quarter before East St. Louis made a few plays that turned the close game into a blowout victory.

William Penn Charter 35 Peddie School 0: The Quakers remain unbeaten as they traveled and shut out the Peddie school.
