District 2 Playoff Preview (WVC Teams)

We’re finally at one of the best times of the year! Playoff time! Only six teams will be crowned District 2 Champion. The WVC is guaranteed at least the 6A District Championship as only Hazleton Area and Wilkes-Barre Area are the only teams in 6A. 2A, 3A and 5A each have one WVC team playing in the postseason. In 4A, 5 of the eight playoff teams are Wyoming Valley Conference teams. With all this being said, here are the teams that are playing November playoff football!!

District 2 2A Playoffs

Holy Redeemer: The Royals are in the District Playoffs for the first time in their school history. They made the Eastern Conference Final in 2017. Holy Redeemer comes in with the best passing attack in the WVC led by QB Jacob Hunter. Hunter threw for 2,044 yards and 27 touchdowns on the season. Wideout Zach Perta recorded 46 catches for 798 yards and 10 touchdowns. They enter the District Playoffs as the 4th seed and play state-ranked and undefeated Lakeland in the first round.

 

District 2 3A Playoffs

Lake-Lehman: The Black Knights made the playoffs as the number 3 seed in the District playoffs. Lake-Lehman play Scranton Prep in the District Semifinals. They played Scranton Prep in Week 3. A game which Scranton Prep won handily. QB Landon Schuckers threw for 514 yards and three touchdowns. He has also rushed for 514 yards and six touchdowns. Wideout Gavin Paraschak has recorded 26 receptions for 440 yards and six touchdowns on the season.

 

District 2 4A Playoffs

Crestwood: Crestwood enters as the top seed in the District 2 4A Playoffs. The Comets enter as the winners of eight straight victories and are the favorite to win their second District title in three years. Senior RB Noah Schultz has run for 1,662 yards and 25 touchdowns. Freshman QB Jaden Shedlock is rushing for 782 yards and 13 touchdowns on the year.

Dallas: The Mountaineers enter the playoffs as the three seed. Dallas is looking to win their first District Championship since 2019 when they advanced to the State Championship game. Senior RB Parker Bolesta is rushing for an outstanding 2,090 yards and 28 touchdowns. Sophomore QB Brady Zapoticky is throwing for 1,304 yards and 14 touchdowns on the season.

Berwick: Berwick made it to the postseason as a number 4 seed. Of the teams on their schedule, nine of the ten teams they play have made their respective District playoffs. QB Matt Lonczynski has thrown for 1,307 yards and 15 touchdowns. He has also added six rushing touchdowns. Wideout Spencer Kishbaugh has 26 catches for 453 yards and five touchdowns.

Wyoming Area: The Warriors enter as the six seed. Wyoming Area has used a strong rushing attack to get to the District playoffs. The running game is led by junior Aaron Crossley. He has 1,971 yards and 23 touchdowns on the year. RB Michael Crane is rushing for 540 yards and three touchdowns on the year.

Nanticoke: Nanticoke made it as the eighth and final playoff team as the District 2 4A Playoffs. Junior RB Zach Fox is the focal point of the Trojan offense. He is rushing for 1,277 yards and 15 touchdowns this season. Junior RB Mykal Julian has added 526 yards and six touchdowns. Nanticoke is looking to pull off a big upset and snap Crestwood’s eight game winning streak.

District 2 5A Playoffs

Pittston Area: The Patriots are the No 2 seed in the 5A Playoffs. Pittston Area went undefeated in Division 2 with a 6-0 record to win the Division crown. Junior QB Drew Delucca threw for 1,555 yards and 18 touchdowns on the season. Senior RB Harry Pugliese is rushing for 1,016 yard and 19 touchdowns on the year. The Patriots are looking to get the victory at home as they take on last year’s District 2 6A Champion Delaware Valley.

 

District 2/4/11 Subregional Playoffs

Hazleton Area: Hazleton Area made it as the three seed in the Subregional. When we hit the end of September, it looked as though the Cougars could get a home game or two in the Subregional Playoffs. However, back-to-back losses to Dallas and Crestwood prevented them from a home game. They now travel to Bethlehem to take on Freedom and are looking to pull the road win in the postseason. Senior QB Tyler Wolfe threw for 1,987 yards and 24 touchdowns on the year. RB Matthew Buchman is rushing for 916 yards and nine touchdowns.

Wilkes-Barre Area: The Wolf Pack made it as the 8th seed in the 6A Subregional Playoffs. Wilkes-Barre Area got into the postseason with a 6-4 record and have won three straight as we head into the postseason. Junior RB Mekhi Nelson ran for 1,638 yards and 21 touchdowns on the year. Freshman QB Jake Howe is throwing for 824 yards and seven touchdowns this year. Wilkes-Barre is taking the long trip to Emmaus and looking to get the upset of the top seed and extend their winning streak to four games.
