| November 14, 2023

For the second straight year we will see the Central catholic Vikings face the North Allegheny Tigers in a WPIAL 6A Championship game. The Vikings have gone 10-1 overall this season and currently sit one game away from another WPIAL 6A Championship. However, the team that stands in the way is the team that defeated them last year in this game a year ago.

Central Catholic 10-1 (4-0)

The Vikings have one of the best offenses in the entire WPIAL, averaging 45.3 points per-game. There are only two teams averaging more points per game this season (North Allegheny, Fort Cherry). This offense is led by one of the best QB’s in the entire WPIAL, Payton Wehner. Wehner threw for 2,400+ yards and 32 TDs and only 4 turnovers. 1,502 of those yards went to Peter Gonzolez and Vernon Settles. Gonzalez, a three-star Penn State commit, led the team in receiving this year and was second in TDs. The guy who leads the team in TDs is their RB Elijah Faulkner. Faulkner carried the ball 165 times and had 1,152 yards and 17 TDs.

The Vikings defense has had seven games where they allowed single digit points. However, in conference games this season they have only allowed 35 points through four games and allowed an average of 13 points per-game.

North Allegheny 10-1 (3-1)

The Tigers statistically have the best offense in the entire WPIAL as they average 46.3 points per-game. The Tigers also scored 40+ points this season in five games, and two games with 60+ points. Senior QB Logan Kushner leads this team in passing and rushing yards. He threw for 1,300+ yards and ran for 880 yards along with a combined 14 TDs. Even though Kushner leads in rushing, the Tigers have three players with 200+ rushing yards, Tyree Alualu leading the way with 760+ yards and 15 TDs. Through the air, six players have 100+ yards receiving, Khiryn Boyd leads the way with 500+ and 11 TDs.

On the defensive side, the Tigers only allow 16 points per-game, and have four games with single digit points allowed with one shutout being included in there.

Overall:

These are the two best teams in 6A and have always been contenders in recent memory. North Allegheny has gone 6-2 against the Vikings since 2018, however two of those games came down to one possession and the Vikings showed dominance over the Tigers this season in their matchup with a final score of 50-22. Both teams will clash once again on the biggest stage in the WPIAL playoffs at Norwin on Saturday.
