The games of the week: A defensive stand at the end of the game, enabled St. Marys to fend off the visiting Bradford Owls, 28-20.  The Dutch held an eight-point lead late, but Bradford moved the ball to the St. Marys 21-yard line.  Then a fourth down pass fell incomplete to give the Dutch the win.  Bradford trailed 22-20 lead at the intermission, thanks to Talan Reese’s Hail Mary TD pass to Jake Franz with one second on the clock.

Clearfield gave Richland, who is now the #2 double A team in PA, all they could handle before falling 35-28.  The Bison trailed 28-7 after one play in the 4th quarter but made a furious comeback attempt, falling just one score short of the upset.  In fact, Clearfield had the ball at midfield late in the game with a chance to tie or take the lead, but the Ram defense took charge and didn’t allow the Bison to advance beyond that point.

Here are the top performers of the week, along with a couple other tidbits:

Other Notes:

  • Thirteen D-9 teams have a .500 record or better. Two are still undefeated and they are the Redbank Valley Bulldogs and the Central Clarion Wildcats.
  • It appears that Central Clarion, Redbank Valley, and Coudersport have respectively already claimed the Regions 1, 2, and 3 crowns.
  • Mason Clouse of Redbank set a new school single season receiving record by scoring 15 touchdowns. He will undoubtedly add to his record before all is said and done.
  • What makes the Central Clarion at Redbank Valley game so intriguing on Friday October 27 is, not only the fact both teams may be undefeated but that both quarterbacks are playing so well. Ferguson and Wagner have each thrown 33 touchdowns in just 8 games.
  • Central Clarion leads all of Pennsylvania in scoring. They average 61.8 points a game and have scored 70 points or better in 4 of their 8 contests.
  • Redbank Valley is 3rd in PA in scoring offense, averaging 54 points per game.
