Quakertown, PA- A turnover in the red zone of your own territory usually doesn’t end well for most teams, especially when the opposing team has a quarterback who has the potential to make magic out of nothing. Fast forward to Friday evening at Alumni field and that exact scenario played out for Central Bucks West, in Head Coach Rob Rowan’s eyes it was the turning point for his squad in this pivotal matchup. The score was knotted a 7-a-piece when the Bucks fumbled on their own 14-yard line. The Bucks did not let that deter them from playing their game and staying the course.  Rowan gleamed, “Our defense got a four-out. We held them and stopped them on fourth down. I thought that was a huge momentum swing in the game because usually, turnovers inside of your own red zone don’t end up well.” On the very next play, senior quarterback Cooper Taylor raced untouched 74 yards to the house to extend the lead to 13-7 after one quarter of play.

“I felt that was a huge point in the game because if they punch it in, they’re up a score, and it just changes the dynamics of the game,” Rowan said. “For us to be able to come up with a stop there, I thought that was a huge answer by our defense.”

About four minutes into the second quarter, however, the Panthers went ahead 14-13 when senior quarterback Vince Micucci took it in from two yards out. After this point, the Bucks took over and never looked back.  My favorite play of the evening came next when on a fourth and eighteen from the Quakertown 18-yard line Cooper Taylor found Conor McFadden in stride as he crossed the endzone for a passing touchdown. The lead was 20-14. Right before the half senior running back Conor McFadden added his second score of the night when he rushed 23 yards for another score making it 27-14 going into the half.  The third quarter saw the bucks eat up a lot of clock and field. Ryan Clemens got to work in the third quarter when he scampered 40 yards for a score that made it 34-14.

The two teams would go on to exchange fourth-quarter touchdowns. For the Bucks junior running back Vance Morelli added a 20-yard touchdown to make it 40-14 and then Quakertown added one more to their tally when Brady Martin connected with Aiden Burgy for a 46-yard touchdown late to make it 40-20 where the score would stand the rest of the way.  After the game Coach Rowan said, “I want to start off by saying that’s a really good Quakertown football team and our guys knew that coming in that today was going to be a challenge. They started out really hot and at one point we were trailing in the 1st quarter. What I was most proud of is that our guys stayed the course. We haven’t been in a situation like that this year, but our guys stuck with what we were doing and went into the half-up, I think two scores.”  Rowan also credited the win to the play of his offensive line as well. “Obviously, Coop, Ryan, and Connor are making really great things happen, but our offensive line is executing really, really well.”
