Dover defeated York Suburban 42-0 in the Eagles’ homecoming game this Friday.

Going into the game, both teams seemed like they had a shot at winning, as they both lost to conference powerhouse New Oxford by at least 30 points. However, York Suburban was not able to able to hold back Dover’s offense, lead by QB Aric Campbell, WR Thomas Smyster, and RB Garon Quillen.

The start of the game saw both teams have short drives that did not result in anything, but Dover was able to score their first of many with a catch by Brayden Zirkle in the endzone to put the Eagles up 7-0 with over 8 minutes left in the first quarter. After an interception by Brayden Zirkle intended for a Trojans player, Dover got the ball back on the Trojan’s 20 yard line and Quarterback Aric Campbell would run it on fourth down for their second touchdown of the first quarter.

The second quarter would go the same as the first. Aric Campbell would strike again on a QB sneak to put the Eagles up 21-0 with plenty of time left. Garon Quillen would then get past everyone and run the ball over 60 yards for his first of the game. With 3:10 left, the Eagles were still not done scoring and Thomas Smyser was able to find the ball on a contested catch in the endzone. Dover would now be up 35-0 and the first half was still not over. And, with just over a minute remaining in the first half, Dover’s Garon Quillen would run past all of the Trojans’ defense and over 70 yards to find the endzone for the last time in the half and his second so far in the game.

Going into the second half, Dover had already put most of the JV team in, but the Trojan’s varsity offence was still fighting to put something on the scoreboard. Eventually, near the end of the third quarter, the Trojans conceded and took out most of the starters. At the end of the third the score was still 42-0, and neither team was able to make much progress. The fourth quarter came and went, with the final score remaining 42-0.

After this big win, the Dover Eagles advance to 4-2, while York suburban falls to 2-4. Aric Campbell had an outstanding performance for the eagles, with accurate passes and the ability to score on his own if needed. Dover plays away at Eastern York next Friday, while York Suburban travels to Susquehannock.
