
Fort Cherry erupts in second half, defeats Monessen 35-14; Picture Gallery included

In the first quarter, both teams traded processions until the midway point of the first quarter when Monessen senior cornerback Timothy Kershaw intercepted Fort Cherry quarterback Matt Sieg and put Monessen in decent field position at midfield.
However, the Fort Cherry defense stood tall and got the ball back late in the first quarter. Fort Cherry finished the drive with seven points thanks to a forty-one-yard touchdown catch by Braydon Cook at 10:16 in the second quarter.
Monessen quickly answered back on their next drive with a 44-yard touchdown by Tyvaughn Kershaw. Monessen added two more points with a successful two-point conversion and took an 8-7 with a little over five minutes to play in the half.
Monessen took that lead into the locker room and with possession heading into the start of the second half. Monessen took advantage of the ball immediately by scoring a twenty-nine-yard touchdown by Tavian Taylor in under two minutes of the third quarter. The two-point conversion was unsuccessful to keep it a seven-point game.

Both teams traded possessions on their next drives, however, Fort Cherry added six points before the end of the third quarter thanks to a fourteen-yard touchdown by Braydon Cook. The extra point was no good.

Fort Cherry took the lead on their next possession thanks to a fifty-one-yard rushing touchdown by quarterback Matt Sieg on the first play of the fourth quarter to take the lead. Wide receiver Braydon Cook ran it into the endzone for a successful two-point conversation and made it a 21-14 game.
On their next drive, Monessen drove into Fort Cherry territory but was intercepted by cornerback Evan Rogers. Fort Cherry turned the interception into seven more points thanks to a seventeen-yard-touchdown by wide receiver Shane Cornali with 8:08 left of the fourth quarter.
Fort Cherry added seven more to make it a 35-14 game, thanks to a three-yard run by Ryan Huey with just under four minutes to go.
Monessen drove down the field on their next drive deep into Fort Cherry territory, but the clock beat them to the endzone, ending the game with a 35-14 win for Fort Cherry.
