Frankford Head Coach Damion Brockington jumped for joy as his team was rewarded with the Public League 5A championship plaque. Coach Brock has been the head coach of the Pioneers since 2021 when in his first season as head coach he led the team to a 10-1 season with the lone loss coming at the hands of Imhotep in the 5A championship game. In 2022 Frankford would struggle going 3-9 Including 0-5 within the division which caused them to be demoted from the Liberty to the National Division. The 2023 season would see the Pioneers go 3-10 and another winless season within the division.

Outside of the coaches and players not many envisioned this Pioneers team being a championship team. Coach Brock and his staff worked vigorously creating a culture of winning and after falling in their opening game at Council Rock by a score of 43-20 the team rallied to win 9 consecutive games to earn not only a division title but also earn a berth in the Public League 5A title game. Led by a group of 14 seniors the Pioneers dominated the Mastery Charter North Pumas in the 28-8 victory. Sophomore QB Deshaun Foster would throw 3 touchdown passes in the victory with two going to senior star receiver Rahzir Seals. His other touchdown pass would go to Jaron Whitehead. Their remaining score would come on an interception returned for a touchdown early in the 3rd quarter to seal the victory.
Coach Brock won a championship as a star Linebacker for Frankford back in 2005 and Saturday became the first coach in over 15 years to have both a public league championship as a head coach and player at the same school. Coach Brock emphasized how much this championship means to the players coaches’ community and the school. He stated “I have a team full of seniors who just put the nonsense to the side and brought in, they understood players play and coaches’ coach. 10 straight wins I’m just blessed to have this group of kids who were with me through the 3-win seasons they deserve this”. As for the next game which will take place this upcoming weekend in the district 12 title game against powerhouse Roman Catholic Coach Brock stated, “They say we are playing with house money, nah we just playing the hands we are dealt”.
Senior Rahzir Seals the leading receiver for Frankford noted that “This season has been different from the last two seasons just by us getting the job done this year. The last 2 seasons we struggled to close games out with a win. We would always come close but not finishing the game to earn the wins”. With regards to his 35-yard touchdown reception Rahzir said “Being at the WR position I realized I was faster, bigger and stronger than their defensive backs and that I could do whatever I wanted with them which helped the team come out on top.” With regards to the title game Rahzir stated “Everyone doubted us and didn’t think we could win the Pub, we kept our composure and didn’t fall off track. We just focused on dominating week after week. Losing the first game of the season was tough but that kept us motivated to keep our heads up and keep going. With a 9 game winning streak we went into the championship game with confidence”.
