Concord, PA: The offense showed up in bunches tonight in the final regular season game for the Garnet Valley Jaguars. The Jag offense was able to move the ball downfield at will, both on the ground and through the air. With the win over Conestoga, 49 to 3, the Jags finish the regular season undefeated in Head Coach Eric VanWyk’s first season at the helm. “It’s not about me. It’s about the seniors. These guys, they really bought into everything we stand for, and it’s just a testament to that. What they put in August till now, I’m really proud of these guys,” stated VanWyk on the undefeated season.

The bruising Jaguar run game found the end zone five times tonight against Conestoga. The first to cross the goal line was tailback Jason “The Bus” Bernard running one in from six yards out. The touchdown was set up by a Drew Van Horn 22-yard catch and run. Joseph Checchio was the next Jag to find the end zone running one in for a 17-yard score. Late in the third quarter, Luke Mingioni bullied his way into the end zone for a 1-yard score. Bernard added his second touchdown run of the night, scoring from five yards out. The final touchdown run of the night came late in the fourth when Trevor Saccomandi ran 47-yards for the score.

Coming off the bye week last week, the focus for the Jags was becoming a dual-threat team. “We really did emphasize this past week that we want to be a dual-threat team,” stated VanWyk. Quarterback Matt Mesaros was at the forefront of the Jaguar offense’s duality. Mesaros threw two passing touchdowns tonight, the first being a 34-yard touchdown pass to tight end Jake McDowell and then a 3-yard touchdown throw to Ronnie Leraris.

With the win over Conestoga, the Jaguars finish the season atop the Central League and now move the focus to playoff football. No matter what, the first game of the playoffs will be back at “The Moe.” “I just know I’m excited that we get to play here on Friday night, and that’s what I’m really excited about,” VanWyk on the upcoming playoff matchup. The Jags will find out in the coming days who they will take on next week at home.
