Waterford – General McLane won their 5th-straight game, and quarterback Isaac Zietz became the school’s all-time leading passer Friday night.
In a matchup featuring the top teams in Region 5 and 6 in District 10, General McLane built a 21-0 second-quarter lead and knocked off the Bison 28-6 at Carm Bonito Stadium.
“We challenged our guys big time this week,” said General McLane head coach Marshall McCormick. “In all three phases of the game, they were outstanding. I think only allowing six points gets overshadowed by what Isaac, Jake, and our offense can do. Our special teams played great. It was a great game overall for us.”
In the process, Isaac Zietz became the all-time leading passer at General McLane High School. The senior signal caller needed 230 yards and finished the contest 15-of-21 for 272 yards and four touchdowns.
“It means so much,” Isaac Zietz said.”I can remember going to football games when I was four years old. I always dreamed of playing football, I didn’t know what I wanted to play because I’ve played a lot of positions. I just knew I wanted to get on the football field and play under the lights on Friday night. I could have never imagined I could have done something like this. Huge thanks to my coaches, our offensive line, and every player on our team as well.”
His twin brother, Jacob, caught all four touchdown passes and broke his own school record for receiving yards with 212 on eight receptions. His prior record of 209 was set earlier in the season.
“This was the biggest game of the year right here,” Jacob Zietz said. “Last year, they got the best of us, but this year I can confidently say that we handled them very well.”
For the Lancers, getting out to the early lead was imperative against a Bison team that relies heavily on their rushing attack. Fort LeBoeuf was also playing without starting quarterback Dominic Walters, who suffered a broken foot during last week’s win against Grove City.
Though General McLane didn’t score on their initial drive, they put together three consecutive touchdown drives from the latter stages of the opening quarter to the mid-way point of the second stanza.
On their second possession, the Lancers got the ball rolling and moved 68 yards in nine plays as Jacob Zietz caught a short pass from Isaac and ran across the field into the end zone from the icebreaker.

Their succeeding drive saw them facing a 3rd-and-15 from their 16-yard line. Isaac threw a bomb down the near sideline to Jacob for an 84-yard rainbow.
Special teams proved costly for the Bison. Damian Blose dropped a punt snap, resulting in a 6-yard loss, and General McLane took over at their 23-yard line.
Five plays later, Jacob hauled in a 12-yard pass from Isaac, putting the Lancers in front 21-0 at the 5:07 second quarter mark.
“We talked about how important it was to get in the end zone on that first drive,” said McCormick. “We didn’t, so how would our guys respond to that? We got a big stop and then got rolling. We scored three straight times, and getting them out of their element of running the ball was a big part of our gameplan.”
Fort LeBoeuf got on the scoreboard late in the first half when Damian Blose capped an 11-play 72-yard drive with a 3-yard run with 35 seconds to play in the first half.
Damian Blose led the Bison with 88 yards on 24 carries.
The Bison took the second-half kickoff and drove from their 32-yard line to the Lancers 19 before turning the ball over on downs.
Two plays later, Jacob took a screen pass from Isaac and raced 73 yards for a touchdown. On the play, Isaac became the all-time leading passer at General McLane High School.
The play was a special moment for both brothers, breaking the record and effectively putting the game out of reach.
“That makes it so funny that he didn’t throw it deep, and I did it for him,” Jacob joked. “He’s a hell of a quarterback and always plays amazing. I’m so happy that we’re able to share the field together. That meant so much to me. Having him hold the record, we’ll always know I caught the pass for him to break it. It means so much.”

“That’s great. I’ll probably watch that video forever,” Isaac Zietz said.”If I have kids or grandkids, I’ll tell them about it. I’m proud, and I’m proud of my brother, too.”
Coach McCormick talked about what it means to see the record broken.
“It’s a testament to our offensive line, receivers, and how much work Isaac puts in during the offseason,” McCormick said. “He knows he doesn’t get it without all the guys around him. He’d be the first one to tell you that. He’s a great young man and leader. I’m really proud of him because it all came together for him this year. He definitely deserves it.”
The Bison would go on a 17-play drive that ate up most of the remaining clock before turning the ball over on downs at the Lancers’ 9-yard line.
“Our guys responded. We made a few adjustments at halftime, but nothing crazy,” McCormick said. “We knew the clock was still moving. So we were okay with the time they were taking that time off. Then, when you can score in one or two plays, it makes things easier.”
General McLane returns to Region 6 play next Friday night when they host winless Warren. Fort LeBoeuf will look to bounce back when they host Fairview.
