Greater Latrobe upsets West Allegheny 39-7 in first round of WPIAL Playoffs

West Allegheny (8) hosts Greater Latrobe (9) in the first round of WPIAL Playoff play. West Allegheny being the favorites in this game, had a disappointing ending to their season, has Greater Latrobe left with the victory 39-7.
As time got closer to a 7:00 PM kickoff, West Allegheny’s stadium lights on the far side of the stadium, went out in the middle of the National Anthem. Game was delayed about 10-15 minutes leading to a bit of a late kickoff happening at around 7:20 PM. All lights were fixed, and no harm was caused to attendees or equipment.
After the late kickoff, West Allegheny started with the ball, but had a short drive that ending in them punting.
On Greater Latrobe’s first drive, they had a monster catch from Ja’Tawn Williams, setting them up for their first touchdown of the night and John Wetzel’s first rushing touchdown of the night.

West Allegheny had another short drive with a 3 and out, giving the ball right back to the already leading Wildcats.
Greater Latrobe takes the opportunity for more points getting a field goal to go up 10-0 late in the first quarter.
End of the first quarter came with a Wildcat leading score of 10-0 against the Indians with a still hopeful team waiting to get back into it.
QB John Wetzel for Greater Latrobe had an amazing opening playoff performance, scoring three rushing touchdowns before halftime bringing the Wildcats lead to 24-0 entering the half.
Third quarter of play was very meniscal from both teams until the very end of the quarter, QB John Wetzel scores his fourth rushing touchdown of the night. The Wildcats also went for the two-point conversion, getting those 2 extra points as well.

Greater Latrobe continued their dominance and Wetzel shared the love of scoring with RB Brady Prohovic going up 39-0 early in the fourth quarter.
West Allegheny ends the opportunity of a playoff shutout with a rushing touchdown from RB Michael Woodson in the seventh minute of the fourth quarter.
West Allegheny falls to Greater Latrobe at home, ending their season, going 6-5 on the season.
Greater Latrobe moves on to the second round of WPIAL playoffs, traveling to Heinz Field facing off against the Aliquippa Quips (1), who are the number one team in 4A competition.
