Slippery Rock – Hunter Hohman accounted for 420 yards of offense and five touchdowns, leading Grove City to a 35-0 victory over Fort LeBoeuf Friday night to open the District 10 Class AAA playoffs.
The victory for the Eagles sets up a showdown with Hickory next weekend in the semifinals. The Hornets beat Grove City 29-15 on October 6th.
“It’s such a special time of year, and we’re grateful to practice together for another week,” said Grove City head coach Sam Mowrey. “That could end at any point in time. We’re grateful that we get to spend another week with our boys. Hats off to them, and our coaches did a great job tonight.”
Grove City scored on five of their first six possessions, building 28-0 halftime before invoking the mercy clock four minutes into the second half.
“It was all three phases tonight and started with our special teams covering kicks,” Mowrey said. “Defensively, they did a great job of reading their assignments, and that was one thing we emphasized this week. On offense, they did a great job of execution. I thought our line did a great job of setting the tone; our backs could find the holes, and our receivers could make some plays down the field.”
On their initial drive, Hunter Hohman capped a 15-play 85-yard drive with a 2-yard run – late in the first quarter, after holding the Bison on downs at their 37-yard line, Hohman threw a 63-yard touchdown pass to Clayton Martin, giving the Eagles a 13-0 lead after a quarter.

Midway through the second quarter, Hohman ran an option keeper 87 yards for a touchdown as he exploded up the middle.
Dom Garzarelli then intercepted a Conner McChesney pass, Leading to Hohman’s 14-yard touchdown pass to Nathan Greer three plays later.
Fort LeBoeuf’s best chance to get on the scoreboard came late in the first half when they drove from their 27-yard line to the Eagles’ 14, aided by 30 penalty yards against Grove City, but Aiden Lesik’s 4th-and-2 rush came up a yard short.
Two weeks ago, Wilmington had rushed for 467 yards against the Eagles while the Bison torched Sharpsville for 352 yards on the ground.
“The boys will tell you that Wilmington is a physical team, and they play hard,” said Mowrey. “Tonight, our defensive staff did a great job of emphasizing what we needed to do, and the kids came out and played fast and physical tonight.
Friday night was a different story as Grove City limited Fort LeBoeuf to 138 yards of offense, including only 91 rushing.
Grove City took the football to begin the second half and drove 67 yards in eight plays to put the 35-point running clock into motion when Hohman tossed a 13-yard touchdown to Gavin Lutz.

The Eagles had Gavin Lutz and Nathan Greer go over the century mark receiving, with Lutz catching nine passes for 122 yards and Greer hauling in five passes for 103.
Meanwhile, Hohman accounted for 420 offensive yards, completing 17-of-19 passes for 307 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for 113 and two scores.
“We’re grateful to be able to have him for another week, and what a remarkable young man, said Mowrey. “He’d be the first to thank his teammates, knowing his line did a great job blocking and his receivers down the field making plays. His leadership rubs off on the guys around him.”
Gavin Lutz must catch only three more passes to set the Grove City school record for all-time receptions. A record that is currently held by his older brother Logan, who is playing college ball for Duquesne.
Grove City will now look forward to a semifinal rematch against Hickory, who beat General McLane 44-12.
Fort LeBoeuf closes their season at 7-4, and the Bison were led offensively by Conner McChesney, who rushed for 66 yards on 12 carries and completed 3-of-12 passes for 30 yards with an interception.
“We had a good season, and my hats off to coach Mowrey and Grove City,” said Fort LeBoeuf head coach Justin Blose. “They’re a tough team and a great opponent. They were explosive, and they have a couple of great athletes with their quarterbacks and receivers who have been together for a long time. They’re thought to defend. This senior class is guys I love. I hate to see them go, which makes this so hard. It’s emotional. They’re a great group; I’d die for those guys.”
